Polygon In Peril: Will MATIC Bounce Back Or Stay Stuck In The Sub-$1 Doldrums?

Polygon (MATIC), the high-speed scaling solution for Ethereum, has been on a rollercoaster ride this month. After a brutal price correction that saw MATIC tumble over 20%, a recent 24-hour surge has injected a dose of optimism into the market. But is this a sign of a full recovery, or a temporary reprieve before further decline?

Polygon’s Price Plunge: A Reality Check

CoinMarketCap data paints a sobering picture. MATIC has been steadily dropping down the ranks of the top 20 cryptocurrencies, currently sitting at number 18. This decline coincides with a significant price drop, with MATIC losing over a quarter of its value in the last 30 days.

Analysts like World of Charts point to the descending channel pattern on MATIC’s daily chart, a classic indicator of a bearish trend. For a true price recovery, MATIC needs to overcome a crucial hurdle: the $0.77 resistance level. A breakout above this point could trigger a significant bull run to the $1 dollar level, but the climb won’t be easy.

Pulse On Investor Sentiment

The past 24 hours have offered a glimmer of hope for Polygon bulls. The token price surged by 5%, briefly eclipsing the $0.74 mark. This uptick coincides with an improvement in the MVRV ratio, which suggests a rise in the number of profitable MATIC investors.

Additionally, the bullish crossover on the MACD indicator hints at a potential increase in buying pressure. However, beneath the surface, some concerning trends remain.

Despite the recent price uptick, data suggests substantial selling pressure on Polygon. The exchange inflow has increased significantly, indicating investors moving tokens onto exchanges, often a precursor to selling. This trend is further corroborated by a rise in MATIC’s supply on exchanges, while the supply held outside of exchanges has dwindled.

Technical Indicators Paint A Mixed Picture

While the MACD offers a glimmer of hope, other technical indicators remain bearish. The Bollinger Bands suggest reduced volatility, which can be a sign of consolidation before a breakout or a further price drop. Both the Money Flow Index (MFI) and Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) have registered downticks, potentially signaling the end of the short-lived bull rally.

Polygon’s Path Forward

While the technical outlook for Polygon remains uncertain, a complete reversal isn’t out of the question. Continued positive developments within the Polygon ecosystem, coupled with broader market recovery, could propel MATIC upwards.

However, overcoming the selling pressure and technical resistance levels will be crucial for a sustained bull run. Investors should exercise caution and closely monitor market developments before making any investment decisions.

Whale Alert: MATIC Poised For Epic Surge – Time To Dive In?

In the ever-volatile landscape of the cryptocurrency market, recent days have seen a surge in turbulence, with Bitcoin and leading altcoins struggling to maintain stability. Among them, MATIC, the native token of Polygon, hasn’t been immune to the downward pressure, experiencing a drop of nearly 2% in the past 24 hours alone.

As of the latest data, MATIC is trading at $0.69, marking a 21% decrease compared to the previous week.

MATIC: Whales Seize The Opportunity

Despite the market downturn, some seasoned investors are viewing this as an opportunity to stockpile MATIC at lower prices. Large holders, colloquially known as whales, have been particularly active during this period of volatility.

Notably, there has been significant accumulation of MATIC by whales, with one notable investor scooping up nearly 2 million tokens. This trend of accumulation is further evidenced by an uptick in the number of wallets holding substantial amounts of the altcoin, ranging from 1,000 to 10 million coins.

Additionally, large transactions worth more than $100,000 have increased significantly, indicating a concerted effort by whales to buy the dip.

Bullish Sentiment Prevails Among Whales

Whales remain steadfast in their bullish outlook for MATIC. Data shows that more than half of all whale positions for the crypto on Binance are long. This suggests that large investors are confident in the token’s potential for a short-term rebound. Their optimism is rooted in their belief in the underlying fundamentals of MATIC and its role within the Polygon ecosystem.

However, amidst the backdrop of price volatility, there has been a surge in negative commentary surrounding the coin. The Weighted Sentiment indicator reflects an increase in bearish sentiment, potentially influencing retail investors’ participation.

Negative discourse, particularly on social media platforms, can have a significant impact on market sentiment and investor behavior. Retail investors, often swayed by discussions and sentiment online, may be cautious in their approach to MATIC amidst the prevailing negativity.

Furthermore, Santiment’s data analysis corroborates the uptick in whale activity and accumulation of MATIC during the market downturn. Santiment’s insights provide additional context to the trends observed in whale behavior, offering valuable information for market participants.

While the cryptocurrency market grapples with uncertainty and price fluctuations, MATIC stands out as a focal point of activity. Whales are leveraging the market downturn to accumulate MATIC, expressing confidence in its future prospects.

Despite challenges posed by negative commentary, the bullish sentiment among whales underscores the resilience of MATIC within the broader crypto landscape.

Polygon (MATIC) In Buy Zone That Earlier Led To 112% & 87% Surges

On-chain data shows Polygon (MATIC) is currently inside the same buy zone that earlier led to rallies of around 112% and 87% for the asset.

Polygon 30-Day MVRV Ratio Is Significantly Negative Currently

As pointed out by analyst Ali in a post on X, MATIC is showing a historically bullish pattern in its 30-day MVRV ratio. The “Market Value to Realized Value (MVRV) ratio” here refers to an on-chain indicator that keeps track of the ratio between the Polygon market cap and realized cap.

The realized cap is a capitalization model that calculates the total valuation of the cryptocurrency by assuming that the “real” value of any coin in circulation isn’t the current MATIC spot price, but rather the price at which it was last transferred on the blockchain.

Considering that the last movement of any coin was the last time it changed hands, the price at its time would serve as its current cost basis. As such, the realized cap essentially sums up the cost basis of every coin in circulation.

Put another way, the realized cap is a measure of the total amount of capital the investors have put into the asset. Since the MVRV ratio compares the value the holders are carrying right now (that is, the market cap) against this initial investment, its value can tell us about the profit-loss status of the market as a whole.

Now, here is a chart that shows the trend in the 30-day version of the Polygon MVRV ratio, which tells us about the profit-loss balance specifically for the investors who bought within the past month:

Polygon MVRV Ratio

In the graph, the 30-day MVRV ratio has been displayed in terms of a percentage, with the 0% mark aligning with the scenario where the market cap and realized cap are equal.

It’s visible that the indicator has registered some steep drawdown for Polygon recently and has dipped deep inside the negative territory. This would imply that the investors who bought within the last 30 days have entered into notable losses.

The latest levels of the metric have been low enough to qualify for a zone that has provided profitable buying opportunities in the past. “Historically, the last two entries into this zone saw MATIC surge by 112% and 87%,” notes the analyst.

A possible explanation behind this pattern could be the fact that as these 30-day investors enter into losses, the selling pressure in the market goes down as there aren’t many profit-takers left. This naturally facilitates for bottoms to take place.

It now remains to be seen whether this past pattern would repeat for Polygon this time as well, and if it does, whether any resulting surge would be of a similar scale or not.

MATIC Price

Polygon has registered a 3% surge in the past day, with its price now floating above $0.93. Given the timing, it’s possible the MVRV ratio buy signal may already be in effect.

Polygon Observes Buy Signal: Analyst Suggests MATIC Rebound To This Level

An analyst has explained how a buy signal forming in the price of Polygon (MATIC) could lead to the asset rebounding towards these price targets.

Polygon Is Showing A TD Sequential Buy Signal Right Now

In a new post on X, analyst Ali has discussed about the a Tom Demark (TD) Sequential signal forming in the MATIC price chart. The TD Sequential here refers to an indicator in technical analysis that’s generally used for pinpointing probable locations of reversal in any given asset’s value.

This indicator has two phases to it, the first of which is known as the “setup.” In this phase, candles of the same polarity are counted up to nine, at the end of which the price may be assumed to have encountered a point of reversal.

Naturally, if the candles leading up to the completion of the setup had been red, the reversal would be towards the upside, while green candles would suggest a potential top for the asset.

Once the setup is done with, the second phase called the “countdown” begins. This phase works similarly to the setup, except for the fact that it lasts for thirteen candles instead of nine. After these thirteen candles of the same polarity are also in, the price may be considered to have attained another likely point of reversal.

Polygon has recently completed a TD Sequential phase of the former type. Below is the chart shared by Ali that shows the formation of this TD Sequential signal for the MATIC daily price.

Polygon (MATIC) Price Chart

As displayed in the above graph, the Polygon daily price has finished a TD Sequential setup with a downtrend recently. This would suggest that the asset may be at a potential bottom at the moment.

“If MATIC stays strong above $0.87, we could see a rebound to $0.95, or better yet, $1!” says the analyst. A potential rally to the former of these targets would suggest an increase of more than 8% from the current price, while a run to the latter level would mean growth of almost 14%.

It now remains to be seen how the Polygon price will develop from here and if the TD Sequential buy signal will end up holding or not.

MATIC Price

The past few weeks have been a bad time for Polygon investors as the cryptocurrency’s price has slid down all the way from around the $1.3 level to now the $0.87 mark, corresponding to a drawdown of over 33%.

The chart below shows what the trend in MATIC’s value has looked like over the past month.

Polygon Price Chart

Amid this downward trajectory, the TD Sequential buy signal may perhaps end up being at least a glimmer of hope for the Polygon holders.

Reality Check: MATIC Investors Count Losses – More Headaches Ahead?

Polygon’s native token, MATIC, finds itself at a crossroads as it grapples with price volatility amidst an impending network upgrade and challenges surrounding Total Value Locked (TVL). In the past week, MATIC has witnessed a notable downturn in price, slipping by 4.44% according to data from CoinMarketCap. Despite earlier optimism that drove MATIC close to the $2 mark, the token has encountered resistance at the $1 level, with bullish momentum struggling to gain traction amidst prevailing market conditions.

MATIC Investors Feel The Pinch

Data analysis from IntoTheBlock paints a mixed picture for MATIC holders, revealing that 51% are currently facing losses, while 43% are enjoying profits, leaving a mere 5% at the break-even point. This volatility serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks associated with investments in the cryptocurrency market.

However, amidst the market turbulence, a ray of hope emerges for MATIC holders in the form of Polygon’s recently announced “Napoli upgrade.” This upgrade, designed to bolster the network’s consensus mechanisms, is set to introduce enhancements in parallel execution and incorporate novel operational codes for the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). Analysts speculate that the Napoli upgrade could inject renewed buying pressure into the market, with projections hinting at a potential price rise towards $1.30 if bullish sentiment prevails.

Despite the anticipation surrounding the Napoli upgrade, Polygon faces challenges on other fronts, notably concerning its Total Value Locked (TVL). In a remarkable turnaround from its peak in 2021, TVL has plummeted to $1 billion, according to data from DeFiLlama. This decline reflects a waning participation in liquidity provision, raising concerns about the protocol’s health and resilience.

The Road Ahead For Polygon

Polygon’s leadership remains optimistic about the project’s future, emphasizing its resilience amidst market fluctuations. They believe that the Napoli upgrade, coupled with strategic initiatives aimed at addressing challenges such as TVL, will fortify Polygon’s position for sustained success in the dynamic cryptocurrency landscape.

As investors and industry observers closely monitor developments within the Polygon ecosystem, navigating the delicate balance between the potential catalyst of the Napoli upgrade and the headwinds posed by declining TVL, the road ahead for MATIC remains uncertain. The cryptocurrency’s ability to weather market volatility and regain momentum in the face of recent setbacks will be pivotal in shaping its trajectory in the coming weeks and months.

MATIC’s recent price gyrations, punctuated by the announcement of the Napoli upgrade and challenges surrounding TVL, underscore the complexities inherent in navigating the cryptocurrency market. As Polygon continues to chart its course, adaptation and innovation will be key drivers in determining its long-term viability amidst an ever-evolving landscape.

Incoming MATIC Surge: Analyst Predicts $15 Price Target

Digital asset analyst with X handle Crypto Patel has recently shared a bullish prediction on MATIC price movement in the coming weeks. This forecast comes amidst MATIC’s poor performance in the last seven days, during which it lost 6.68% of its market value, based on data from CoinMarketCap.

The Polygon native token had been one of the best-performing assets in 2024 rising by over 76.38% between January to March. However, the altcoin has now recorded a 22.83% decline over the last two weeks, drawing much concern over its future price movement.

$1.20 Price Level Critical For MATIC Price Surge, Analyst Says

In a post on X on March 23, Crypto Patel presented a bullish case for MATIC despite the token’s current downtrend, naming the forecast the “MATIC BULL RUN ROADMAP.”

Firstly, the analyst stated that a MATIC bullish pennant was being formed. For context, the bullish pennant represents a price pattern that typically follows a string of upward movement in price (the flagpole) followed by a period of consolidation (pennant).

A bullish pennant is characterized by converging trendlines, which indicates the continuation of the previous uptrend once the price breaks out of consolidation. Importantly, Crypto Patel emphasized that MATIC’s bullish pennant was being formed on a higher time frame (HTF), such as the weekly chart.

Following historical trends, the complete formation of the bullish pennant could result in Polygon native asset experiencing a 100x price increase in the highly anticipated crypto bull run, as observed in 2021.

However, with a focus on short-term targets, Crypto Patel has stated that MATIC reaching the $1.20 price zone on the HTF could trigger a surge to a range of $10-$15, representing a potential 1500% gain on the asset’s current price.  Albeit, in the advent of an unexpected crash, the crypto analyst expects MATIC could be significantly affected but should find support around the $0.60-$0.70 price zone.

MATIC Price Overview

At the time of writing, MATIC trades around $0.9817 with a 1.30% gain in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, the token’s daily trading volume has declined by 31.82% and is valued at $291.65 million. With a market cap value of $9.7 billion, MATIC is ranked the 16th largest cryptocurrency and one of the world’s most prominent digital assets.

MATIC Price Slumps 10% Amidst Market Downturn – Here Are Key Levels To Watch

MATIC, the native token of the Polygon network, has witnessed a significant decline in its value. It has fallen by more than 10% in the past week and 8% in less than 24 hours as the general cryptocurrency market continues to grapple with a cloud of negative sentiment.

Fortunately, the latest on-chain analysis has revealed the important levels that investors should look out for following the latest decline in the MATIC price.

Over 10,900 Addresses Bought 600 Million Polygon Tokens At This Price

According to a recent post on X by crypto pundit Ali Martinez, the price of MATIC has established a key support around its current price point. This evaluation is based on analytics firm IntoTheBlock’s on-chain data, which tracks the average acquisition price for any given wallet address.

MATIC

Above is the chart highlighted by Martinez that shows the distribution of the Polygon token supply across various price ranges. The size of the dots in the chart represents the magnitude of coins purchased around the corresponding price range.

Most notably, over 10,900 wallet addresses bought a whopping 608 million MATIC around the $1.02 and $1.05 zone. According to the crypto analyst, this massive buying activity has supported the establishment of crucial support around this price region.

While the large size of the dot reflects the strength of this particular level, sustained bearish pressure could cause the price of MATIC to breach and fall beneath this support. In this case, investors could see the cryptocurrency drop to around $0.91.

This makes the $0.89 and $0.92 price range another level to watch, as it represents the next vital support area, where 35,680 wallet addresses purchased nearly 400 million Polygon tokens.

MATIC Price Overview

As of this writing, the price of MATIC stands at $1.04, reflecting an 8% decline in the past 24 hours. This price dip comes after the altcoin printed a multi-month high of $1.28 on Thursday, March 14.

According to data from CoinGecko, the Polygon coin has suffered a 9.7% price slump in the last seven days. From a broader perspective, though, the cryptocurrency has had a fairly positive performance in the past month.

With a market capitalization of more than $9.7 billion, the MATIC token ranks as the 18th-largest cryptocurrency in the sector.

Polygon (MATIC) Whale Makes Large Deposit To Binance, Bearish Sign?

On-chain data shows a Polygon whale has made a sizeable deposit to the cryptocurrency exchange Binance, a sign that may be bearish for MATIC.

Polygon Whale Has Deposited $13.7M Worth Of MATIC To Binance

According to data from the cryptocurrency transaction tracker service Whale Alert, a massive MATIC transaction has been spotted on the blockchain during the past day.

The transfer in question involved the movement of 13.1 million MATIC, worth almost $13.7 million in US Dollars, when the transaction went through on the network. Given the large scale of the transfer, it’s likely that a whale entity was responsible for it.

Whales can be influential beings on the blockchain due to their sheer scale of holdings. As such, their movements can be worth watching, as they may lead to fluctuations in the market or, at the very least, inform us about the sentiment among these humongous entities.

As for what any such transaction may imply for the market, it comes down to the intent behind it. Below are additional details regarding the latest Polygon whale transfer, which may reveal its context.

Polygon Whale Transaction

As is visible above, the sending address involved in this Polygon transaction was an unknown wallet. This means the address was unaffiliated with any known centralized platform like an exchange and, thus, was likely to be an investor’s wallet.

On the other hand, the receiving address was connected to a centralized entity: the cryptocurrency exchange Binance. Moves like this that go from unknown wallets to exchanges are known as exchange inflows.

The whale making an inflow to Binance suggests they wanted to use one of the platform’s services, which can include selling. As such, the transaction may prove to be bearish for Polygon’s price if the whale ends up selling their stack.

MATIC Is Behind Market With Only 1% Surge Today

Whereas the rest of the cryptocurrency market has been racing up in the past day, led by Bitcoin’s strong surge towards $57,000, Polygon has lagged as the asset has only been able to see an uplift of 1% in the last 24 hours.

The below chart shows how the coin has performed in the last few days.

Polygon Price Chart

However, Polygon’s returns of around 7% over the past week aren’t too far off from Bitcoin’s 9% profits in the same period. Still, the relatively poor performance in the past day may be why the whale has potentially decided to sell their large stack.

Regarding market cap, MATIC is currently the 14th largest coin in the sector, with its closest competitor, Polkadot (DOT), speeding away with its gains of more than 6%.

Polygon Market Cap

The Polygon Vesting Contract Is Officially Empty, Will This Send MATIC Price To $3?

Like many other crypto projects, the native token of the Polygon network, MATIC, was launched with some portion of the supply vested for the team over a period of time. In the case of Polygon, the vesting was for five years, and since 2019, there have been periodic token unlocks. However, the unlocks, which have often been a deterrent for investors, are now over, as the last batch was just released to the team.

Polygon Last Unlock Goes To Team

On Wednesday, February 21, the Polygon Foundation received the very last portion of their vested tokens from the vesting contract. In total, 273,304,816 million MATIC tokens valued at $260 million were released to the Foundation’s wallet.

This unlock marks the very last unlock that the Foundation will receive, meaning that almost all of the available supply of MATIC is now in circulation. The latest unclog brings the circulating supply of the cryptocurrency to 9,618,318,574 out of its 10,000,000,000 maximum supply. As a result of this, the market cap of Polygon is sitting just above $9.14 billion with a fully diluted valuation (FDV) of approximately $5 billion.

The entirety of the MATIC supply has been unlocked, which means that there will be no more tokens being brought into circulation. This is a huge milestone for the project, whose investors have waited years for the vested tokens to finally run out.

MATIC price chart from Tradingview.com (Polygon)

How Will This Affect The MATIC Price?

The fact that the entirety of the MATIC supply is now in circulation is bullish for the digital asset, especially in the long term. Inflation is a factor that tends to drive investors away and keep them from holding their coins due to the fear of more tokens coming into circulation, causing supply to exceed demand.

Now that the entirety of the supply is now in circulation, it gives the MATIC price a chance to enter into price discovery. However, there is still some concern about when the Polygon Foundation might start selling their coins as the entirety of the unlocked tokens still sit in the Foundation’s wallet.

If they do decide to sell, though, it is likely that the foundation would do so through OTC (over-the-counter) deals to minimize the impact of such a sale on the token price. As a result, the MATIC price might not suffer much.

At the time of writing, the MATIC token is trading at $0.95 with a 24-hour increase of 1.11%. Although its performance has been far from encouraging, the token is sitting only 67% below its 2021 all-time high of $2.92.

Polygon Could See Bull Rally To $1.73 If This Happens: Analyst

An analyst explained that Polygon could see a potential bull rally to $1.73 if the cryptocurrency’s price is above this level.

Polygon Appears To Be Breaking Out Of A Symmetrical Triangle Currently

In a new post on X, analyst Ali talked about a multi-year Symmetrical Triangle that Polygon has been traveling inside. The “Symmetrical Triangle” is a pattern in technical analysis (TA) that, as its name already implies, looks like a triangle.

The pattern comprises two converging trendlines, with the upper line being made by joining lower highs in the price, while the lower level connects higher lows.

A feature of this pattern is that these two lines approach each other at roughly an equal (but opposite) slope. This is the reason why there is “symmetrical” in its name.

When the price trades inside the triangle, it tends to encounter resistance at the upper level. As such, tops can probably form at the line. Similarly, the lower line can act as a source of support, thus facilitating likely bottoms to take place.

If the asset breaks through either of these barriers, its price could probably see a sustained push in that direction. This means that breaks above the triangle can be bullish signals, while drops under it can signify that a bearish trajectory has taken over.

There are also other triangle patterns in TA, with two popular ones being the Ascending and Descending Triangles. These two patterns differ from the Symmetrical Triangle in that one of their trendlines is parallel to the time axis (meaning their lines can never have an equal slope).

Now, here is the chart shared by Ali that shows a Symmetrical Triangle pattern that the weekly price of Polygon has traded inside for the last couple of years:

Polygon Symmetrical Triangle

As the graph shows, the Polygon weekly price has shown signs of a breakout from this Symmetrical Triangle pattern that it has been stuck inside for multiple years.

Since such breakouts have historically been bullish, this surge for MATIC could mean some sustained bullish momentum may be coming. This is only, of course, if the break truly gets confirmed.

“If MATIC can maintain a close above $0.96, it could signal the start of a bull rally, with a potential target of $1.73!” explains the analyst. From the current asset price, a run to this target would mean an increase of more than 78% for the cryptocurrency.

MATIC Price

After witnessing a break above the $1 mark, Polygon slipped yesterday as its price declined to $0.90. However, the coin has recovered above $0.97 in the past day.

This is above the $0.96 target set by the analyst, so if Polygon can continue to maintain above it now, the break might get confirmed for the asset.

MATIC Price Prediction: Polygon Rallies To $1 and Bulls Are Not Done Yet

MATIC price is up over 10% and it tested the $1.00 resistance. Polygon bulls are in full control, and they might aim for more upsides above $1.00.

  • MATIC price started a fresh increase above the $0.850 resistance against the US dollar.
  • The price is trading above $0.95 and the 100 simple moving average (4 hours).
  • There is a key bullish trend line forming with support at $0.958 on the 4-hour chart of the MATIC/USD pair (data source from Kraken).
  • The pair could continue to move up if it clears the $1.00 resistance.

Polygon Price Starts Fresh Surge

After forming a base above the $0.80 level, Polygon’s price started a fresh increase. MATIC cleared many hurdles near $0.880 and $0.900 to move into a positive zone, like Bitcoin and Ethereum.

There was also a move above the $0.92 resistance and the 100 simple moving average (4 hours). Finally, it tested the $1.00 resistance. A multi-week high is formed near $1.000 and the price is now consolidating gains above the 23.6% Fib retracement level of the upward move from the $0.8185 swing low to the $1.00 high.

MATIC is trading above $0.950 and the 100 simple moving average (4 hours). There is also a key bullish trend line forming with support at $0.958 on the 4-hour chart of the MATIC/USD pair.

Immediate resistance is near the $0.995 zone. The first major resistance is near the $1.00 level. If there is an upside break above the $1.00 resistance level, the price could continue to rise.

MATIC Price Prediction

The next major resistance is near $1.08. A clear move above the $1.08 resistance could start a steady increase. In the stated case, the price could even attempt a move toward the $1.120 level or $1.150.

Are Dips Limited in MATIC?

If MATIC’s price fails to rise above the $1.00 resistance level, it could start a downside correction. Immediate support on the downside is near the $0.955 level and the trend line.

The main support is near the $0.900 level or the 50% Fib retracement level of the upward move from the $0.8185 swing low to the $1.00 high. A downside break below the $0.900 level could open the doors for a fresh decline toward $0.850. The next major support is near the $0.800 level.

Technical Indicators

4 hours MACD – The MACD for MATIC/USD is gaining momentum in the bullish zone.

4 hours RSI (Relative Strength Index) – The RSI for MATIC/USD is now above the 50 level.

Major Support Levels – $0.955 and $0.900.

Major Resistance Levels – $1.00, $1.08, and $1.12.

If ZK Is The ‘End Game,’ Is Polygon (MATIC) Ready For $3?

With zero knowledge (ZK) proofs expected to be a game changer for blockchain scaling, Polygon may be on the brink of a major rally. Taking to X on February 2, crypto market commentator Polynya, asserts that ZK technology is the “endgame” as its “1,000x efficiency upside is irresistible for networks.”

Will “ZK” Technology Be The “End Game”?

This forecast on ZK adoption is massive for Polygon and its native token, MATIC, which has been under significant selling pressure in the past few trading months. As it is, Polygon Labs, the developer of the Ethereum sidechain, has been at the forefront, advocating for the development of ZK scaling solutions.

In 2021, Polygon began assembling a team to develop zkEVM, a technique relying on zero knowledge to scale Ethereum cheaply while being compatible with the EVM. Recent Polygon Labs documentation shows that their zkEVM is in beta and being tested.

However, this hasn’t stopped the team from striking deals with layer-1 protocols interested in harnessing this technology.

In mid-January, NEAR Protocol’s Data Availability (DA) solution was integrated with Polygon’s custom blockchain development kit (CDK). The goal was to make it easier for developers to create ZK rollup solutions suitable for their needs while leveraging NEAR Protocol‘s infrastructure. All this is when ensuring the integration lowers cost and improves performance.

Polygon Labs has also partnered with other platforms, including Immutable–a layer-2 web3 solution for NFTs; Ankr–an infrastructure provider; and QuickSwap–a decentralized exchange (DEX). Most of these platforms plan to operate as layer-2s for Ethereum.

The total value locked (TVL) in layer-2 protocols remains in an uptrend, according to L2Beat. These platforms command over $21 billion. So far, the largest layer-2 protocols, Arbitrum, Optimism, and Base, use Optimistic Rollups.

Report Shows Polygon Users Rivaled Ethereum In 2023, But Why Has Price Failed To Clear $1?

Layer-2 network Polygon is reported to have competed with Ethereum in 2023, as both networks saw the most influx of new users. This development has once again raised concerns about MATIC’s price, considering that such an achievement should potentially mean that new money moved into the ecosystem last year.

Polygon and Ethereum Acquired The Most Users In 2023

According to a report by Blockchain analytics firm Flipside, Polygon and Ethereum led the pack with 30.6 million acquired users in 2023. Giving a further breakdown, Polygon is said to have acquired 15,24 million users, while Ethereum attracted 15.4 million users. Meanwhile, these users are defined as persons who performed at least two transactions on the networks.

Despite falling about 160,000 short of Ethereum’s numbers, Polygon’s numbers are still impressive, considering that it ranked ahead of other networks like Bitcoin and Solana. The layer-2 network also outperformed other Ethereum L2 networks like Arbitrum, Optimism, and Base, which recorded 7.3 million, 3.3 million, and 1.9 million acquired users, respectively.

Notably, Polygon hit the ground running as soon as 2023 began, setting the record for monthly acquired users with 2 million in January. Interestingly, January 2023 was the first time MATIC rose above $1 in a very long while. It held above that level until the end of April 2023. After that, MATIC traded below that level for most of the year, only rising above $1 towards the end of December 2023.

Why Has MATIC Failed To Rise And Hold Above $1

A recent analysis by Blockchain intelligence firm ChainArgos suggested that the Polygon team has been secretly selling off MATIC tokens, something which could have accounted for the significant sell pressures that have risen at different times for the crypto token. This could also serve as a plausible explanation for why MATIC has struggled to hold above $1 despite enjoying great utility.

The Polygon team was accused of not executing its token allocations in line with the publicly stated plan, with part of the allocated funds accounting for some of the tokens that were sold. These secret sales, which have for long gone under the radar, are said to be circumvented through wallets linked to the crypto exchange Binance

So far, about 767 million MATIC have apparently been offloaded in these secret transactions. ChainArgos hinted at how these transactions have no doubt affected MATIC’s price on different occasions, as they noted that the outflows are a “good indicator for an upcoming top and subsequent move lower.”

At the time of writing, MATIC is trading at around $0.73, up in the last 24 hours, according to data from CoinMarketCap.

Exploit On Polygon Contracts Extract $15M, Here Are The Details

The play-and-own mobile gaming platform GAMEE suffered an exploit of its GMEE token contracts on Polygon that led to the theft of 600 million GMEE tokens and left the crypto community pondering questions.

GAMEE Confirms $15M Exploit On Polygon

On January 22, GAMEE Token’s official X (formerly Twitter) account advised its users to refrain from engaging with the digital asset while their team investigated the GMEE token-related security comprise it had just suffered.

The GMEE token is an ERC-20 utility token “designed to be the currency of access, action, and governance within the GAMEE ecosystem,” as their website states.

Before the official announcement, crypto users quickly noticed the token’s sudden price crash and the transactions behind it. This left GAMEE users and the general crypto community wondering if an exploit had occurred.

In the early hours of January 23, GAMEE’s team returned to the X platform to explain what happened and the steps to come.

The thread explains that their preliminary investigation indicated that the GMEE token contracts on Polygon had been compromised via unauthorized GitLab access.

This compromise resulted in the theft of 600 million GMEE tokens worth approximately $15.28 million at the time of the exploit. The compromised tokens were immediately converted to ETH and MATIC and exchanged via various decentralized exchanges (DEXs) in the following hours, drastically impacting the GMEE token price.

The team behind GAMEE explained that after noticing the Polygon GMEE deployer address was compromised, they secured the token contract ownership and all associated contracts by transferring ownership to a “new secure address.”

The team also clarified that only proprietary team token reserves were affected, and the exploit did not affect assets owned by the community, as “GAMEE does not custody or manage any community-owned assets.”

GAMEE expressed its understanding of how the impact of the unauthorized transactions could have affected the GAMEE community, as it led to price volatility and limited use of the GMEE token while investigations were taking place.

The next steps for GAMEE will consist of an impacted user identification process to evaluate the best way to support the affected part of the community. Additionally, they plan to provide a real-time update on the details that further investigations will provide as an effort to keep trust and transparency.

Lastly, the user was advised to exercise caution “given the volatile market conditions and potential liquidity impacts driven by CEX measures.”

GMEE’s Violent Price Drop

Around the time of the exploit, the GMEE token had been trading at $0.02554112, according to CoinGecko’s data, and it had been previously sitting at the $0.027-$0.026 range throughout the weekend.

Shortly after the exploit, the prince crashed to $0.01155577, reaching its lowest point of $0.00897251 in the early hours of today.

It’s worth noting that many saw the price crash as a possibly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to profit. Various users shared that they had bought the dip and even advised others to do it. One X user said, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

At writing time, the GMEE token trades at $0.016999, a 31.5% decline in the last 24 hours.

How To Buy, Sell, And Trade Tokens on The Polygon Network

Polygon (formerly Matic Network) is a game-changing Layer 2 scaling solution that addresses Ethereum’s scalability challenges. It empowers developers to create and deploy scalable, interoperable decentralized applications (dApps) by utilizing sidechains, plasma chains, and innovative scaling techniques.

If you’re unfamiliar, sidechains are unique blockchains that are bound to the main Ethereum blockchain and are effective in supporting many Decentralized Finance (DeFi) protocols available on the Ethereum network. This enables rapid transaction speed and cost-effectiveness while maintaining the security and decentralization of the Ethereum network.

As a Layer 2 solution, Polygon operates in parallel to the Ethereum blockchain. Rather than individually validating each transaction, batches of transactions are sent to the Ethereum blockchain, significantly accelerating the validation process and reducing fees.

Polygon implements a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism wherein users can stake tokens for a predetermined duration to validate transactions. In return for their staking activities, participants are rewarded with MATIC tokens.

To ensure robust security, Polygon implements the advanced technique of “commit-chain” or “checkpointing.” It securely anchors the state of Polygon chains onto the Ethereum mainnet at regular intervals, enhancing data integrity and leveraging Ethereum’s inherent security. By capitalizing on Ethereum’s proven security measures, Polygon provides users with a reliable and resilient platform for their transactions and dApps.

The Polygon Network offers a comprehensive set of features that address scalability, security, and developer-friendliness. In this article, we will delve into the key attributes of the Polygon network and assess its substantial potential within the Ethereum ecosystem.

Features Of The Polygon Network

Cross-Chain Connectivity

Polygon network offers bridges that enable smooth transfers of assets and data across diverse blockchains. This fosters interoperability between chains, empowering users to leverage the advantages of multiple blockchain networks and access a broader array of decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols and applications.

This compatibility guarantees a seamless transition and adoption of Polygon while leveraging the extensive Ethereum ecosystem and developer tools.

Commit-Chain Checkpointing

Polygon employs commit-chain checkpointing, securing the state of its chains by anchoring them onto the Ethereum mainnet. This approach guarantees the integrity of data, harnesses Ethereum’s robust security measures, and safeguards against any unauthorized alterations or tampering of the sidechain data.

Ethereum Network Security

Leveraging Ethereum as its anchor chain, Polygon leverages the inherent security and decentralization of the Ethereum network. This integration fortifies the overall security of the Polygon ecosystem, ensuring users have access to a reliable and resilient platform for transactions and decentralized applications (dApps).

Developer-Centric Environment

Polygon provides an array of developer tools and infrastructure that empower developers to create and deploy decentralized applications (dApps) seamlessly. The Polygon Software Development Kit (SDK) offers a streamlined framework for building scalable applications on the network, simplifying the development process.

Polygon also prioritizes the needs of developers by offering extensive documentation, guides, and resources. This ensures that developers have access to the necessary information and support to comprehend and harness the platform effectively. The availability of comprehensive resources fosters a vibrant developer community, encouraging collaboration and driving innovation on the network.

MATIC Token Utility And Exchange Availability

Polygon’s rebranding decision resulted in the retention of MATIC as its token ticker symbol. MATIC, an ERC-20 token, ensures compatibility with numerous Ethereum projects. Within the Polygon network, users rely on MATIC to secure and govern the network and cover transaction fees.

The MATIC token serves multiple purposes within Polygon’s ecosystem. Users can utilize MATIC for fee payments during transactions on the Polygon platform. MATIC can also be staked to contribute to the network’s security and earn rewards.

Furthermore, MATIC holders have the ability to engage in governance activities by voting on proposed modifications, influencing the evolution of the network.

In terms of exchange availability, MATIC can be traded on various platforms, including prominent exchanges like UniSwap. This wide accessibility on exchanges enhances liquidity and provides individuals with convenient access to acquire or trade MATIC tokens.

Polygon’s Transfer Troubles: Is MATIC Facing A Trust Crisis?

Recently, the blockchain intelligence firm ChainArgos brought to light some unsettling findings about the Polygon network. According to ChainArgos, suspicious transaction patterns have emerged, raising questions about Polygon’s adherence to its initial token allocation plan.

ChainArgos’ investigation revealed multiple transactions from Polygon’s network to various exchanges seemed “questionable.” Particularly, the firm pointed out “anomalies” in the flow of tokens from Polygon’s vesting contract, which is responsible for the systematic release of tokens.

This contract, distinct from the foundation contract that governs overall allocations, displayed inconsistencies in outflow patterns. The firm’s latest analysis, detailed in a series of posts on X, scrutinizes the movement of significant quantities of MATIC tokens, Polygon’s native cryptocurrency.

Concerns Over Large MATIC Transfers

The investigative reports from ChainArgos delved deeper into the token flows. The firm noted that a specific wallet received approximately 470 million MATIC from two sources – the foundation and an insider wallet, particularly 340 million and 170 million, respectively.

The largest transfer identified was linked to a wallet associated with the plasma bridge, including two additional transactions to untagged wallets.

Adding to the intrigue, ChainArgos observed that a sum of 178 million MATIC was transferred to the prominent exchange Binance, with the last transaction dated May 23, 2021. These findings were substantiated by a chart from Etherscan, illustrating the token movements.

In the wake of these revelations, Polygon’s native token, MATIC, has experienced significant market turbulence. Over the past week, the cryptocurrency decreased by exceeding 10%, with a 4.2% drop in just the past 24 hours.

Polygon (MATIC) price chart on TradingView

MATIC is valued at $0.81 at the time of writing, marking a mere 2.5% increase over the past month. This bearish performance contrasts sharply with the broader altcoin market, which has generally shown substantial gains during the same period.

The declining market position of MATIC is reflected in its slide to the 16th rank among cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. Furthermore, its trading volume has plummeted from over $1 billion last Thursday to a mere $493 million, indicating a significant reduction in trading activity.

Analysts’ Take On MATIC’s Future

Despite these challenges, some analysts remain optimistic about MATIC’s prospects. Crypto analyst Ali, for instance, predicts a potential rebound for MATIC soon. Ali’s bullish stance is grounded in the TD Sequential indicator, a tool to pinpoint trend exhaustion and imminent price reversals.

Ali’s analysis suggests that the TD indicator currently signals a buy opportunity for MATIC. He contends that if buying pressure intensifies around its current price levels, MATIC could experience a notable upswing.

His projections point to a potential climb towards the $0.88 to $0.96 range, translating to an approximate 16% increase from its current valuation. This optimistic forecast assumes that Polygon’s underlying technology and market position can outweigh the recent concerns raised by ChainArgos’ findings.

Bombshell Report: Polygon Team’s Secret MATIC Sales Lead To Depressed Price

In a detailed analysis released by crypto intelligence firm ChainArgos, allegations have surfaced about the Polygon team’s involvement in secret sales of MATIC tokens, potentially leading to a suppression of the token’s price. The revelations stem from an in-depth examination of the token allocations and subsequent flows to various exchanges.

ChainArgos, in a series of statements on X (formerly Twitter), elaborated on discrepancies between Polygon’s publicly stated token allocation plan and the actual flows observed. Notably, the firm identified irregular outflows from a “vesting contract” and a foundation contract, which ostensibly manages the allocations.

ChainArgos highlighted, “When you look at the flows you find a ‘vesting contract’ which mechanically unlocks all flows… That shape is odd and the gaps are all different sizes,” ChainArgos reported, indicating potential irregularities.

$1 Billion In MATIC Sold In Stealth Modus?

A critical point of concern is the supposed allocation for staking. ChainArgos’s analysis suggests that while the allocation table indicated a range from 400 million to 1.2 billion MATIC for staking, the actual flow into the staking contract started from zero and only reached 800 million.

This discrepancy of 400 million MATIC was traced to an address labelled ‘Binance 33’ on Etherscan, which ChainArgos asserts is not associated with staking activities. This address, interestingly, was also involved in a significant flow of 300 million MATIC to another address, which in turn sent 767 million MATIC to Binance exchange wallets.

“467 million [came] from the Etherscan-labeled “Matic: Marketing & Ecosystem wallet,” ChainArgos notes. The firm further argues that this pattern of outflows is a clear indicator of price manipulation, suggesting a coordinated effort by the Polygon team and Binance to discreetly move large amounts of MATIC.

Polygon allocation problems and suspicious flows

“So this isn’t just some Binance-adjacent thing. The team and Binance are clearly working together to feed these tokens out the back, such as it is. As we are talking about 767 million tokens with a price somewhere roughly $1-$2, this is something like a billion dollars”, the crypto intelligence firm claims.

The firm also correlated the outflows from the address 0x2f4Ee with the MATIC price chart, suggesting that these movements were indicative of impending price tops and subsequent declines. ChainArgos claims, “Now let’s look at the outflows from 0x2f4ee over time. Bring up a price chart. We leave it as an exercise for the reader to work out this is *very obviously* a good indicator for an upcoming top and subsequent move lower.”

Outflows from 0x2f4ee

Lack Of Transparency, More Inconsistencies?

ChainArgos criticized the lack of transparency and oversight in these transactions, urging investors to be more diligent and questioning where their funds are being allocated. “This is not even well hidden. Again this has been in our demo for a while. This example is published as part of our docs. Because none of this is difficult to find. Do better “investors.” Also, maybe, ask where your money went,” ChainArgos states.

For context, the Polygon token supply distribution includes various categories such as Private Sale tokens (3.80% of the total supply), Launchpad sale tokens (19%), Team tokens (16%), Advisors tokens (4%), Network Operations tokens (12%), Foundation tokens (21.86%), and Ecosystem tokens (23.33%). The Launchpad sale, in particular, was conducted in April 2019, raising approximately $5,000,000 USD.

This report raises serious questions about the integrity of token allocations and the potential for market manipulation within the crypto space.

At press time, the Polygon team had not yet responded to ChainArgos’ report. MATIC traded at $0.86, up 11.6% in the last seven days.
