Analysts Bullish On Bitcoin Despite Peter Schiff’s $20,000 Doom Scenario

Over the weekend, the Bitcoin (BTC) crash had the crypto community on its toes. With the price dropping to $60,000, many investors worried that the flagship cryptocurrency was in trouble ahead of the “Halving” event.

Amid the correction, Bitcoin critic Peter Schiff claimed that his previous predictions regarding spot Bitcoin ETFs (exchange-traded funds) were correct and presented the possibility of a doom drop for BTC.

Peter Schiff’s Doomsday Prediction For Bitcoin

Back in March, known Bitcoin opposer Peter Schiff asserted what he thought was the problem with Bitcoin ETFs. According to the economist, the problem with owning these investment products was that liquidity was limited to US market hours, which would mean that investors could not sell if the market crashed overnight.

On Sunday afternoon, Schiff claimed that, as he previously warned, Bitcoin ETF owners would be helpless if the flagship cryptocurrency started selling off that night. BTC traded around $63,460 at the time of his post and recovered in the following hour to trade above the $65,000 support level.

Earlier that day, Schiff had warned of a critical support zone for BTC. To the economist, breaking below $60,000 could “create a formidable triple top.” This trend reversal could lead to an “immediate downside projection” of $20,000.

Following his dooming scenario, Schiff stated that, at that price, MicroStrategy would “have a $2.7 billion unrealized loss on 214K Bitcoin acquired at an average price of $34K.” Additionally, he believes that BTC’s price could increase “before it crashes.”

Analysts Unfazed By BTC’s Correction

Several analysts concurred that the correction was a “minor drop” in the macro picture. According to MacroCRG, Bitcoin’s chart “looks incredible.” The analyst stated: “They threw a full-on war at her and all it managed to do was wick the range low.”

Similarly, trader and analyst Rekt Capital considers that BTC “successfully protected the Range Low of its Re-Accumulation Range as the week of the Bitcoin Halving begins.”

Per the analyst’s chart, Bitcoin is at the “Last Pre-Halving Retrace” during the “Pre-Halving Rally.” If history is to repeat itself, after April 19, BTC will enter the “Re-Accumulation” phase before experiencing the “Post-Halving Parabolic Upside.”

Moreover, Crypto Jelle urged investors to “not get shaken out” as BTC is “consolidating above the previous cycle highs.” The analyst and investor reaffirmed his prediction of $82,000 after the upcoming “Halving” event.

However, Jelle also set a higher target for this bull cycle. The bullish megaphone pattern on BTC’s chart “still has a pattern of $180,000” despite the recent correction, as stated in the post. The analyst claims he wouldn’t be surprised “if the meme pattern plays out once again.”

The correction caused BTC to register bleeding numbers for several periods. The biggest cryptocurrency exhibits an 8.4% and a 3.1% dip in the weekly and monthly timeframes. Similarly, BTC’s market activity has decreased by 32.1% in the past day, with a trading daily volume of $42.56 billion.

Nonetheless, Bitcoin has recovered 3.5% from its price 24 hours ago, currently trading at $66,275. Since the lowest point of this correction, BTC has surged 10.3%.

Bitcoin Suffers Massive Drop On BitMEX, Is The Rally Over?

Since Bitcoin (BTC) witnessed a crash this week to $64,000, the crypto asset has not been able to reclaim its momentum, with the price falling even lower. This has led to a general market decline that has affected altcoins.

Bitcoin Plummets To $8,900 On BitMEX Exchange

In a devastating turn of events, Bitcoin witnessed a steep decline on the Seycelles-based cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX on Monday. Reports from blockchain media, Wu Blockchain, revealed that Bitcoin fell to around $8,900, following a massive BTC sell-off on the platform.

Wu Blockchain reported that a user sold over 400 BTC, which led to the price of Bitcoin falling to the aforementioned figure. Over the space of two hours, the unidentified user sold the 400 BTC in groups of 10–50 BTC.

Consequently, BitMEX’s market stability was impacted since the user sold the assets for incredibly low prices. However, according to reports from Blockchain Daily, the event was short-lived as prices have now returned to the normal level.

In response to the development, BitMEX has assured the crypto community that it is “looking into odd behavior” involving users selling substantial orders on the spot market for BTC-USDT.

The crypto platform further stated that while the investigation is ongoing, “the derivatives market will still be operational, including the index price for its popular XBT derivatives contracts.” Furthermore, the exchange confirmed the safety of users’ funds and assets, and the platform is “running as usual.”

Given that the price of Bitcoin was situated at $68,000 before the incident, the drop indicates an over 87% decline. After falling to $8,900, Bitcoin recovered, but the abnormal price fluctuations lasted for an additional 30 minutes before things returned completely to normal.

The development has since stirred quite a frenzy within the cryptocurrency landscape, leaving the community to ponder on the reason behind the drop. Several crypto enthusiasts believe that the incident was a move orchestrated by BitMEX to manipulate prices to liquidate investors and end up making a lot of money.

Larger Crash Might Take Place

As Bitcoin continues to move downward, Gold advocate and crypto critic Peter Schiff has forecasted a larger crash for prices. At first, Peter Schiff drew the crypto community’s attention to the 2021 rally, in which BTC peaked at $69,000.

However, the largest cryptocurrency witnessed a collapse the next year, and by November 2022, it was already trading at $16,000. As a result, Schiff mocked Bitcoin enthusiasts, asking, “How many of them still have their laser eyes on their profiles.”

Thus, considering that the majority are presently more optimistic about BTC, Schiff anticipates a “bigger crash” is probably on the horizon.

As of the time of writing, the price of Bitcoin was trading at $62,943, indicating an over 7% decline in the past 24 hours. Its market cap is down more than 7%, while its trading volume holds steady increasing by 63% in the past day.

Bitcoin Critic Kicks Against Spot ETF Hype, Predicts Low Institutional Investment

The price of Bitcoin (BTC) moved above $30,000 in the last few hours, according to data from CoinMarketCap. However, as with multiple instances in the past week, the crypto market leader was unable to sustain its bullish momentum, dipping by 0.6% in the last hour.

As the BTC market continues its battle against the $30,000 resistance zone, Bitcoin critic and gold advocate Peter Schiff has weighed in on the ongoing discourse surrounding the potential effects of the approval of a spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF).

Bitcoin ETF Will Not Boost Institutional Investment, Schiff Says

In a post on X on Saturday, Peter Schiff stated that contrary to popular beliefs, the availability of more Bitcoin ETFs will likely not result in a higher level of institutional investment in the world’s largest crypto asset.

Schiff’s heavy take comes at a time in which several asset managers are currently trying to gain approval to launch the first-ever spot Bitcoin ETF in the US.

Since the onset of this ETF saga in June, many market analysts have lauded the potential positive effects a spot Bitcoin ETF could produce, with some predicting BTC’s price to trade above $100,000.

According to a recent report by blockchain analytics firm CryptoQuant, the approval of a spot market ETF could result in BTC attaining a market cap of $900 billion and a total crypto market cap growth of $1 trillion.

However, Peter Schiff presents an opposing theory to this debate as he believes investment brokers will likely not be purchasing such funds for their clients due to certain “liability.”

In this context, “liability” likely refers to the risk factors attached to crypto investments, which include the crypto market volatility and lack of clear regulations in the US, among others.

Peter Schiff believes that with such existing “liability,” investment professionals will not promote or recommend a Bitcoin ETF to their clients.

In the best-case scenario, he states that investment in Bitcoin ETFs – including a spot Bitcoin ETF – will likely occur through unsolicited buy orders whereby a client makes a specific request to purchase such funds.

The ETF Saga Continues

In other news, the Bitcoin ETF saga has garnered more attention in recent weeks as more bullish predictions continue to roll in.

Most recently, Paul Grewal, Chief Legal Officer at Coinbase, stated that the American largest exchange is confident the SEC will definitely greenlight a spot Bitcoin ETF following the commission’s recent court loss against Grayscale.

Meanwhile, certain asset managers, including BlackRock and Ark Invest, have reviewed their ETF applications, indicating signs of an ongoing dialogue with the SEC, a move which typically precedes an approval by the securities regulator.

For now, it remains unknown if a spot Bitcoin ETF will eventually grace the US markets, but analysts have penned down January 10 as the expected date of approval.

Thereafter, Peter Schiff’s theory can be put to the test. However, it is worth stating that BTC did gain by 7% on October 16 following the fake news on the approval of BlackRock iShares ETF.

At the time of writing, BTC trades at $29,890.35 with a 0.6%  gain in the last day. Meanwhile, the token’s daily trading volume is down by 12.67% and valued at $13.35 billion

MicroStrategy Bought Bitcoin To Avoid Liquidation, Peter Schiff Reveals

Bitcoin detractor and economist Peter Schiff has taken another swipe at the digital asset and MicroStrategy, a public company that is heavily invested in the digital asset. Schiff has always been vocal about his disdain for bitcoin and has now turned his attention to MicroStrategy and its former CEO, Michael Saylor.

Why MicroStrategy Bought Bitcoin

In a tweet, Peter Schiff revealed to his more than 890,000 Twitter followers what he says was the real reason behind Michael Saylor and MicroStrategy’s move to begin investing in bitcoin. According to Schiff, former CEO Michael Saylor had admitted that buying BTC was actually a last-ditch effort to save the company from being liquidated. He further dissed the company saying that it has nothing going for it other than a leveraged speculative position on the digital asset.

As expected, Schiff’s strikes toward bitcoin were met with pushback from supporters. One user took to the comment section to defend MicroStrategy’s decision as one that was taken so it could acquire the “scarcest and most desirable asset the world has ever seen.” However, Schiff would denounce this saying that bitcoin was in no way scarce nor was it desirable. He also added that bitcoin was a way to lose money.

Schiff continues to advocate for gold as a better option for investors. Bitcoin maximalist Dan Held hit back at the economist saying, “[Gold] is hardly scare and in no way desirable. If you want to lose your money there are plenty of ways to do it. You don’t need to buy [Gold].”

So Why Did Saylor Buy BTC?

Michael Saylor is arguably one of the most vocal bitcoin bulls. The ex-CEO of MicroStrategy has previously stated that his decision to purchase bitcoin was that he believed that the digital asset is the future of finance. Additionally, Saylor previously revealed that he had personally owned BTC before MicroStrategy had begun purchasing the cryptocurrency, his own personal holdings serving as evidence for the profitability of the asset.

As the company expects the price of bitcoin to appreciate over time, it believes that it will serve as an effective inflation hedge over the long term. Saylor himself has referred to BTC as “digital gold, saying “We find the global acceptance, brand recognition, ecosystem vitality, network dominance, architectural resilience, technical utility, and community ethos of Bitcoin to be persuasive evidence of its superiority as an asset class for those seeking a long-term store of value.”

MicroStrategy’s decision to invest in bitcoin also helped boost the popularity of the company, going from a company operating in the background to one of the most popular names among cryptocurrency enthusiasts.

MicroStrategy is currently the public company with the largest BTC holdings in the world. The company held 130,000 BTC as of Sep. 30, 2022, worth over $2.1 billion at current market prices. At a cumulative entry value of almost $4 billion, the company is recording more than $1.7 billion in unrealized losses following the market downturn.

Bitcoin Detractor Peter Schiff Says It’s Time To Sell BTC, Here’s Why

Economist Peter Schiff has been actively against bitcoin for years now and has been warning investors to stay away from the digital asset. Time and time again, the economist has warned that the price of bitcoin was going to zero, and even after being wrong on multiple occasions, Schiff has not changed his stance on the digital asset. True to form, he has taken to Twitter to warn investors to stay away from the cryptocurrency.

Peter Schiff Says Sell Bitcoin

On Tuesday, chief economist and global strategist Peter Schiff took to Twitter to warn investors once more about the ‘dangers’ of investing in bitcoin. He pointed towards the recent trend of bitcoin at $20,000, referring to this as a false bottom.

He further goes on to say that this is not the time to be buying, given that it is likely that the price of the digital asset would likely continue to plunge. His advice during this time was for investors to sell their bitcoin.

“Markets rarely give investors much time to buy the bottom. #Bitcoin has been trading near $20K for the past 12 days. More likely, $20k will prove to be a false bottom, giving suckers plenty of time to climb aboard a sinking ship. Better to abandon ship before the bottom drops out.”

In a follow-up tweet, Schiff points toward the declining dominance of bitcoin as a reason why it is not a good option to invest in. According to the economist, it is now competing with 21,000 other cryptocurrencies and assets across different spheres of the space. So, in the end, all of the competition is affecting the value of the digital asset.

BTC Loses Market Share

Bitcoin’s market share has been plummeting over the last couple of years. The digital asset has gone from having more than 90% of the total market share to having less than half, and it has not stopped losing market share.

BTC’s total market dominance is currently sitting below 40% at the time of this writing. However, it is important to keep in mind that the digital asset has been able to maintain such large dominance even at a time when altcoins are growing in popularity and commanding more attention from investors.

Bitcoin’s increasing use as an inflation hedge also helps to prop up the digital asset. As well as giving higher year-over-year returns over the past few years. The cryptocurrency has also proved Schiff wrong in the past, rallying to $69,000 when the economist forecasted it going to zero.

BTC is no doubt in a bear trend that might continue for a while, as evidenced by previous bear market cycles. However, if history is any indicator, then bitcoin is likely to go on another bull rally as the halving rolls around in 2024.

Bitcoin Detractor Peter Schiff Lays On What Will Trigger Bitcoin Recovery

Peter Schiff is one of the most vocal bitcoin detractors known to investors. The economist has never been one to hide his disdain for the digital asset and continues to bash it at every chance he gets. This time around, Schiff who has always touted the superiority of other investment forms such as stocks above bitcoin has revealed what he thinks will cause the digital asset to rally upwards again.

Bitcoin Needs The Nasdaq

As always, Peter Schiff continues to push the usefulness of other assets like stocks over that of bitcoin. In his latest tweet on Twitter, the preferred platform for the economist to share general comments about the financial platform and bitcoin, he has explained a scenario where the price of bitcoin would begin to go up.

Schiff explained that for BTC to once again begin another uptrend, it depends largely on the movements of gold and the NASDAQ. The economists put forward that an increase in the NASDAQ would inadvertently lead to an increase in the price of bitcoin. On the flip side, gold, which is currently one of the digital asset’s fiercest competitors, would need to go down, said Schiff.

Explaining further, he laid out that the Fed’s success in bringing down the growing inflation rate was pertinent to this. As long as the Fed is able to safely bring the inflation rate back down to 2% and not harm the economy in the process, then the scenario explained above was likely. For this to happen, there needs to be “minimal rate hikes and big cuts to government spending,” the tweet read.

But Why Buy BTC?

In normal Schiff fashion, the economist did not show any type of support for BTC despite believing that the price would go up along with the NASDAQ. For Schiff, in a scenario like this, there would simply be no need to buy bitcoin, stating “in that scenario why own Bitcoin?”

For #Bitcoin to go up the NASDAQ must go up and #gold must go down. For that to happen the #Fed must succeed in bringing #inflation down to 2% without harming the economy, which requires minimal rate hikes and big cuts to government spending. But in that scenario why own Bitcoin?

— Peter Schiff (@PeterSchiff) March 14, 2022

Schiff has never been a fan of bitcoin and despite the digital asset’s outperformance over the years, continues to diss it at every turn. In 2020, the economist is noted referring to the cryptocurrency as the “biggest” bubble he’s ever seen. In the same year also making comments that BTC was a “fad” and was on its way down to zero. However, since both of these comments were made, bitcoin has more than doubled in value.

Economist Peter Schiff Calls Bitcoin An ‘Imaginary Friend’ In Response To Jack Dorsey’s Hyperinflation Tweet

Peter Schiff is an economist, gold advocate, and one of Bitcoin’s biggest critics. He has never liked the digital currency.

He believes that real value is derived from an asset’s ability to create commercial demand in markets; and always refers to gold as a perfect example of this. In contrast, he says that Bitcoin is nothing but an asymmetric store of value with no other use except attracting an endless supply of buyers for the limited supply of assets. In short, it is a Ponzi scheme. However, he has been proven wrong over and over again.

In his most recent critique of Bitcoin, Schiff said it is not a real asset. This was in response to a tweet by Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey about the possible arrival of hyperinflation in the U.S. soon.

Schiff Responds To Dorsey

On Saturday, October 23, Jack Dorsey shared his opinion on the current economic situation in the U.S on Twitter. He tweeted about the imminent hyperinflation as a result of the constant money printing in the U.S., and how the rest of the world would suffer from it.

In response, Schiff tweeted that people should not look to Bitcoin to save them because it is not a real asset. Instead, they should own real assets like gold.

Just don't expect to find any refuge from it in #Bitcoin. To protect yourself from #hyperinflation you'll need to own real assets. #Gold qualifies, but Bitcoin does not.

— Peter Schiff (@PeterSchiff) October 24, 2021

Another Twitter user commented that Bitcoin is, in fact, real. And that it has just surpassed the Swiss Franc in Market cap. At this point, Schiff replied, calling the cryptocurrency a “make-believe asset” and that it is the adult version of an imaginary friend.

#Bitcoin is a make believe asset. Sometimes kids have imaginary friends. It's the same concept, except with adults.

Peter Schiff’s Grudge with Bitcoin

According to this Wikipedia profile, Peter Schiff is an American stockbroker, financial commentator, and radio personality. He is also CEO and chief global strategist of Euro Pacific Capital Inc., a broker-dealer based in Westport, Connecticut. Additionally, he is involved in various roles in other financial services companies, including Euro Pacific Asset Management, an independent investment advisor, Schiff Gold (formerly Euro Pacific Precious Metals), a precious metals dealer, and Euro Pacific Bank, a full-reserve bank.

In addition to all these, Schiff is known for something else – his grudge with Bitcoin. He has always claimed its value will one day drop to nothing.

Earlier this year, Mark Cuban told Schiff to “move on” because “gold is dead.” In Response,  Schiff said, “Mark, a lot of your athletes wear gold jewelry. Ask them why. Gold has many uses outside of jewelry that contributes to its value as a metal. It’s not hyped at all. Gold is money. Bitcoin is 100% hype. It’s nothing.”

Cuban himself used to be a bitcoin skeptic, preferring bananas to bitcoin because he claimed he could at least eat a banana.

In an interview on Good Evening San Diego a few days ago, Schiff referred to Bitcoin as a fool’s gold and a digital pyramid scheme. He also said that the SEC should not be encouraging people to participate.

BTC trading at over $62K | Source: BTCUSD on TradingView.com

When asked about the SEC’s recent approval of Bitcoin ETFs, he responded that “we should get rid of the SEC”.
He continued by saying, “I have no problem with the ETF itself, but if the SEC is pretending that it is some kind of watchdog and trying to make sure that investors don’t get hurt, then it makes no sense that they would approve this ETF because ultimately, the ETF is going to collapse to zero and the people who are left holding the bag are going to get wiped out.”

Schiff is also not impressed with futures ETFs. He says, “instead of owning nothing, you own a futures contract to gamble on nothing.”

Tomorrow, The Community Will Buy $30 In BTC To Support El Salvador’s Bitcoin Law

The day is here. In a few hours, El Salvador’s Bitcoin Law goes into effect. We will have the first real-world example of a whole nation using the hardest money ever created as legal tender. And, how is the Bitcoin community celebrating? Stack sats, obviously. The order is for everyone to buy $30 worth of BTC to commemorate this glorious occasion. Will you participate?

Related Reading | The 411 On “Adopting Bitcoin,” A Lightning Network Conference in El Salvador

The intention is not to move the dial or pump the price. The amount is small enough to guarantee that, even if the event goes viral. Which it seems like it’s doing. The movement started humbly, with a Reddit post in the /r/Bitcoin community that asked a simple question. So… We all buying $30 worth of Bitcoin on Tuesday? At the time of writing, the idea has 8.9K upvotes and 2.2K commentaries.

Among the comments, some went all-in. “I will buy $3000 tuesday to cover 99 others who arent able to pay.” Others explained away, “Its to show solidarity with our Bitcoin compatriots in El Salvador as they fully adopt Bitcoin as their currency.” And other rightfully criticized, “Sure. Lets just coordinate a 100 mil pump of BTC. Correct me if I’m wrong but this sounds greasy.”

And, sure enough, the idea to back El Salvador’s Bitcoin Law spread to other social networks.

Bitcoin Twitter Will Support El Salvador’s Bitcoin Law

The plebs work fast. As soon as the idea transcended Reddit and got to Bitcoin Twitter, the memes appeared. This piece of art mixes the classic comedy “Trading Places” with El Salvador’s Bitcoin Law, with gold bug Peter Schiff and Bitcoin hater Nouriel Roubini to achieve hilarious effects:

On the 7th of September #Bitcoin becomes legal tender in #ElSalvador.

— Sir William of Orange Pills (@OrangePillWilly) September 5, 2021

Even MicroStrategy’s CEO and notorious Bitcoin enthusiast joined the party. Michael Saylor did his part to support El Salvador’s Bitcoin Law and spread the word to the sizable audience that follows him.

This worries me more than anything. We are at major retracement levels for the price and Michael saylor is getting retail to buy. If the bear market starts this week I wouldn’t be surprised.

— Golde 🔜 EDCLV2021? (@all41and14alll) September 6, 2021

Of course, this raised suspicion. “Everyone needs to be aware that this could possibly be leading the sheep to their death.  Very nerve wracking these narratives are coming out before we hit the HUGE retracement levels,” said one commenter. “A hole. Letting retail buy exactly on the 70.2% retracement to dump on them huh,” said another. “If the bear market starts this week I wouldn’t be surprised,” predicted a third one.

Are they on to something or are they missing something? Michael Saylor strongly stated that MicroStrategy is not looking to sell any of their BTC any time soon, but, people have lied before. Do you know what doesn’t lie, though? Bitcoin. If Michael Saylor and company sell on El Salvador’s Bitcoin Law’s day, people will know. The same thing will happen if they buy.
