Confirmed: AMC Now Accepts Bitcoin, Ethereum, Two Other Cryptos, Dogecoin To Follow

AMC has now officially become the first theater chain to accept Bitcoin, Ethereum, and cryptocurrency payments on its platform. This has been a long time coming after CEO Adam Aron had first announced the entertainment giant’s plans to accept crypto payments by the end of the year. The announcement had said that it would accept crypto payments online for both movie tickets and concessions.

Crypto Payments On AMC Are Official

Everything on AMC’s end looks to have worked right on schedule as the annulment three months ago had stated that the company would begin accepting crypto payments in the fourth quarter of the year. Aron took to Twitter to announce the exciting news that AMC had in fact begun receiving payments in four cryptocurrencies. These included Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin.

Big newsflash! As promised, many new ways NOW to pay online at AMC.  We proudly now accept: drumroll, please… Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin. Also Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal. Incredibly, they already account for 14% of our total online transactions! Dogecoin next. pic.twitter.com/a7pqYBm7HB

At first, Bitcoin was the only crypto that was to be accepted by the change but further reviews had seen the theater chain add more options due to popular demand. One of the reasons being bitcoin carried high transaction fees and would not be the most ideal option for carrying out small transactions. Not long after the bitcoin announcement, CEO Adam Aron had announced that Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin would be joining the lineup.

Other additions came later after Aron had carried out a poll on Twitter. In the poll, he asked the community if they would like to see the popular meme coin Dogecoin accepted and the majority had voted yes. So AMC had incorporated Dogecoin payments for gift cards and plans to introduce Doge payments for movie tickets and concessions.

When Are Dogecoin And Shiba Inu Payments Coming?

In the announcement tweet, Aron had said that Dogecoin payments were coming. There was no definite timeline given for this but with four cryptocurrencies already in operation, speculations are it would not be too far in the future. However, Aron had said nothing about its latest addition to its crypto lineup; Shiba Inu.

The CEO had carried out another poll on Twitter, but this time for Dogecoin’s rival Shiba Inu. Once again, the majority had voted in favor of adding the meme coin as a payment method and Aron had confirmed in an earnings call that it would be implementing Shiba Inu payments in the future.  The SHIB community inquired about when they should expect to be able to pay with their coins, but there has been no update from AMC regarding the matter.

Google Pay, Apple Pay, and PayPal were also introduced alongside cryptocurrency payments.

AMC Theatres Says Customers Will Soon Be Able To Pay With Shiba Inu

Shiba Inu has begun to progress to the next stage of its evolution, being the payments space. The meme coin is taking the same route as its predecessor to being a payment token for facilitating small transactions. It has now made it into AMC Theatre’s list of cryptocurrencies that will be accepted for purchases in the coming months.

This will provide what will be a utility for the meme coin going forward. Shiba Inu which was created with no utility prospects, moved only by the power of internet hype, will see a real-world application soon.

AMC Announces Shiba Inu Payments

AMC CEO Adam Aron had published a poll on Twitter on October 29th to poll the community on their thoughts on Shiba Inu. The poll was similar to the poll carried out for SHIB rival Dogecoin before the company had implemented Dogecoin payments for tickets and concessions. The poll garnered over 150,000 votes, with 81.4% of the voters voting in favor of accepting SHIB.

Fast forward to November and AMC held its quarterly earnings call on Monday. The earnings had more than 10,000 people listening, where CEO Adam Aron announced that the theatre chain would be accepting Shiba Inu as a payment method in the future.  Theatre-goers would be able to purchase tickets and concessions as they would be able to with other cryptocurrencies.

The company, however, did not reveal a time frame for when SHIB payments would be accepted on its platform, but it is expected that the meme coin will go into effect alongside cryptocurrencies scheduled to be implemented for payments in 2022.

AMC Growing Its Lineup

The addition of Shiba Inu as an expected payment method has brought the total to six cryptocurrencies set to be accepted at the theatre chain. CEO Adam Aron had previously disclosed that the entertainment giant was working to implement crypto payments for its services. Initially, bitcoin was the only cryptocurrency announced. But as time went on, other cryptocurrencies were added to the lineup.

Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin were further added to the list to help provide more options for users when paying with cryptocurrencies. Then in October, Aron announced that the theatre chain would begin accepting Dogecoin, bringing the total to five.

Dogecoin payments were implemented after the CEO carried out a poll that saw the overwhelming majority voted for Doge to be added to the lineup. On October 5th, Dogecoin payments were officially announced, allowing users to purchase gift cards of up to $200 a day using the cryptocurrency.

AMC Theaters Considers Accepting Shiba Inu As Payment Amid Growing Interest

AMC Theatres, the largest movie theater chain in the world, is considering adding Shiba Inu (SHIB) as a way to pay for tickets.

On Friday, the CEO of the theatre chain, Adam Aron, put up a poll on Twitter asking the crypto community if they would be potentially interested in paying for movie tickets with Shiba Inu.

After acquiring some cinemas in 2016, AMC became the largest movie theater chain in the world. It has 2,866 screens in 358 theatres in Europe and 7,967 screens in 620 theatres in the United States.

Shiba Inu – A Potential Means Of Payment

AMC Theatres is already in the process of integrating the payment options for movie tickets using Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, and Dogecoin, into its system. So this recent development is not really a surprise.

On Friday, Shiba Inu overtook Dogecoin to become the ninth-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization. With a market cap of $40,476,844,035, the meme coin was up 5.13% in the last 24 hours.

In the early hours of Friday, Aron took to his Twitter page to ask users if the company should accept online payments in Shiba Inu in addition to the other digital currencies that it’s working on.

The poll already has a significant number of interactions even though there are still four days left to vote. At the time of writing, 121,916 Twitter users have already voted. So far, 87% support the movie theater chain accepting SHIB, while 13% are opposed to the idea.

This is, however, not Aron’s first Twitter poll of this sort. The first poll, which was conducted in September, was about whether AMC Theatres should accept rival meme coin Dogecoin. That poll also attracted a lot of attention. And after the voting ended, Aron expressed his fascination with the number of interactions it garnered.
Among those who liked his tweet was Tesla CEO and dogecoin supporter Elon Musk.

AMC Theatres And Crypto

The multinational entertainment giant has been showing serious interest in blockchain technology recently.

Last week during an interview with CNBC, CEO Adam Aron discussed AMC’s crypto ambitions. He said, “We’ve made a lot of noise in the last few months about getting hyperactive in cryptocurrency.” He also discussed the possibility of issuing company-specific crypto.

In August, the firm stated its intention to include Bitcoin payments for movie tickets into its infrastructure by the end of this year.

The following month, the theater giant expanded on those crypto payment options by including Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH). According to Aron, moviegoers are keen to pay for their movies with crypto at AMC theatres. These new payment methods will also be available by the end of the year.

Earlier this month, AMC added Dogecoin to the list of crypto payment options. However, this will be added in early 2022. The company also announced that users can now buy digital gift cards with Dogecoin and other cryptocurrencies using their BitPay wallets.

Huge news Dogecoin fans! As we work to accept online crypto payments, now you can buy @AMCTheatres digital gift cards (up to $200 per day) with Dogecoin and other cryptocurrency using a BitPay Wallet.  Accepted on our web site, mobile app, and in theatres. https://t.co/hPubbeq4YG pic.twitter.com/dra7e23tc8

Last month, the CEO of AMC theatres also indicated its interest in minting commemorative movie tickets as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) during a CNBC interview.
