Total ETH Burned Crosses 1.5 Million Ahead Of Ethereum Dencun Upgrade

The Ethereum Dencun upgrade is fast approaching and there have already been notable developments leading up to it. Besides the price of ETH rising to new two-year highs, there has been a significant increase in the amount of ETH that has been burned so far.

Over 50,000 ETH Burned

The Ethereum burn, which was brought with the EIP-1559 upgrade, has been ramping up over the past year. The ETH burned from fees on the blockchain quickly crossed the $100 million mark, and has now climbed to a new milestone.

According to Ultrasound Money, a website dedicated to tracking the performance of Ethereum since EIP-1559 was implemented, there have now been over 1.5 million ETH burned. A more accurate figure is 1,502,518.84 ETH at the time of writing, which is more than $5.6 billion at current prices.

The number of burned ETH has also greatly surpassed that of ETH issued, which means that the network has turned deflationary. Compared to the 1,502,518.84 ETH burned, there have been only 1,089,809.20 ETH issued in the same time period. This shows that the supply has not increased despite the new issuance, and ETH already in circulation is being burned as well.

At the time of the upgrade in 2022, the total Ethereum supply was 120,521,245. However, since then, the burn has been slowly eating into this figure and is currently sitting at 120,108,332 ETH. This means that the ETH supply has reduced by 412,706 ETH worth $1.55 billion since 2022.

Ethereum Dencun Upgrade Looms On The Horizon

The Ethereum Dencun upgrade is the latest in a long line of upgrades that have taken place in an effort to make it a better network. This upgrade is expected to come with a number of improvements for the network, including boosting its efficiency and capacity.

It was launched on all testnets last week which is expected to be the final phase before the launch. The launch itself has been scheduled to take place less than a week from now on March 13. Once completed, an increase in block space is expected to follow.

Presently, the ETH price is performing quite nicely leading up to the upgrade. It recently touched $3,900 for the first time since 2022, and while there has been a slight retracement, the altcoin continues to trend high above $3,700 at the time of writing.

Ethereum Plans For Dencun Upgrade: Is This The End Of Roll-Ups?

Ye Zhang, the co-founder of Scroll, a layer-2 project using zero-knowledge proof, is cautiously optimistic about the upcoming Dencun upgrade. In a post on X, Zhang pointed out Dencun’s potential benefits, particularly the low transaction fees.

However, in the same post, the co-founder highlighted the likely challenges it could present for existing layer-2 scaling solutions using roll-ups.

Dencun Introduces EIP-4844 In Ethereum: What It Means

Ethereum developers plan to implement Dencun in mid-March. Implementing the Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP)-4844 is a big part of this hard fork. With this execution, the proposal will introduce a new “blob-carrying transaction” feature.

What’s unique about these transactions is that they allow users to cheaply attach blobs, which are large amounts of data, compared to traditional Ethereum transactions.

Based on observations from the Goerli testnet, Zhang anticipates blobs to be 3-5 times cheaper than traditional call data on Ethereum. Accordingly, the vast difference means innovative developers can come up with blob-inscriptions. These inscriptions will effectively compete with layer-2 solutions like Arbitrum or Optimism leveraging roll-ups.

This possibility cannot be discounted because, in essence, EIP-4844 aims to reduce layer-2 transactions through blob transactions. Effectively, the proposal means the foundation of Blob inscriptions.

This solution takes a different approach but could take on roll-up platforms if widely adopted. It will be the case if users transacting large chunks of data realize the advantage of going the blob inscription route.

Even so, roll-ups will carry distinct advantages over blob inscriptions. A notable one is the superior scalability of roll-ups. These solutions can inherently process more transactions every second. Additionally, they are secure since they inherit security from the Ethereum mainnet.

ETH Prices Steady Above $3,800

Still, until after Dencun is implemented, the impact of EIP-4844 will be thoroughly measured. Overall, the Ethereum and layer-2 communities are ecstatic for the upgrade, expecting it to thrust ETH even higher in the current bull run.

Amid the boom in ETH and crypto prices, interest in Ethereum layer-2 solutions continues to expand. The latest L2Beat data shows that Arbitrum, Optimism, and other alternatives manage over $36 billion. Arbitrum, enjoying its first-move advantage, manages nearly $16 billion.

The Ethereum Foundation Is Selling ETH Again, Is The Top In?

The Ethereum Foundation, a non-profit organization, has initiated an unexpected ETH sell-off to a single address, prompting speculation about a potential market peak.

Ethereum Foundation Executes Multiple ETH Transfers

On Monday, March 4, Blockchain analytics platform LookOnChain revealed a series of transactions executed by a wallet address related to the Ethereum Foundation. Sharing a screenshot of the transaction details on X (formerly Twitter), LookOnchain disclosed that the Ethereum Foundation had initiated three ETH transactions to a single wallet address identified as “Cumberland Forwarder”.

Among these transfers, two involved selling off 500 ETH each, while the third recorded a transaction amount of 0 ETH. At the time of writing the price of Ethereum is trading at $3,684.95 according to CoinMarketCap. This price puts the value of the Ethereum Foundation’s 1000 ETH sell-offs at over $3.68 million.

It’s uncertain whether this unexpected sell-off indicates a shift in the foundation’s perspective on Ethereum’s current valuation, as the foundation is known for selling ETH tokens during tops. Additionally, the timing of the transfers could be an indication of a peak in Ethereum’s price, which often precedes a significant price correction.

Including the Ethereum Foundation, there have been other major ETH transfers made by investors. Earlier in January, bankrupt cryptocurrency company Celsius Network initiated a massive sell-off worth about $125 million ETH. Following this large-scale transfer, Ethereum’s price experienced a major decline.

With the price of Ethereum slowly approaching its peak value, if a similar sell-off phase occurs, it could potentially trigger a shift in market sentiment, pushing investors to opt for other major cryptocurrencies as they attempt to diversify their portfolios and avoid risks.

ETH’s Price Update

Recently, Ethereum has been witnessing significant gains, driving its price closer to its previous all-time high of $4,379 in May 2021. Notably, the cryptocurrency has been aggressively following Bitcoin’s recent bullish uptrend, reinforcing its position as the second-largest cryptocurrency in the space.

Various analysts have consistently made bullish predictions about the price of Ethereum, with the majority expecting the cryptocurrency to surge above $5,000 soon. Considering the multiple upgrades and developmental activities ongoing within the Ethereum blockchain, a price surge to $4,000 seems probable.

In the advent that Ethereum reaches its “top in”, the cryptocurrency may undergo a sell-off phase, as investors seek to maximize profits by cashing out their investments. This could lead to a price reversal, with persistent selling pressures diminishing demand and instigating Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) among traders and investors.

A Dual Tech Saga: Disruptive Trends From ETHDenver And MWC

As the first quarter of 2024 ends, the crypto industry has also seen the conclusion of major events, including ETHDenver. The 2018-launched mythical event has grown as the industry matures, becoming a crucial venue for founders and community members to observe new developments across the crypto ecosystem.

In addition, crypto and blockchain took center stage at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. The event, which took place last week, hosted over 100,000 attendees from over 200 countries and 2,700 exhibitors from different tech sectors.

We sat down with Claudia Richoux, Founder and CEO of Banyan, and Sheraz Ahmed, Managing Partner at STORM, to discuss these conferences, and get a behind-the-scenes look at the trends and key topics for the industry now and in the future. This is what they told us.

“… people actually really don’t know where we’re going or don’t know where we’re headed.”

Sheraz Ahmed, STORM Managing Partner

ETHDenver: A Chat With Filecoin-Based Banyan Founder Claudia Richoux

Claudia Richoux founded Banyan on top of the Filecoin network to empower users and give them control over their data. In that sense, the project is an alternative to Amazon Web Services (AWS), as it pushes for data sovereignty and price optimization for startups and companies.

In a world built on centralized data storage solutions, individuals are at risk of suffering from censorship, but companies face different risks as their operations become more and more reliable on a single point of failure. We spoke with Claudia about this and much more:

Q: What do you think about ETHDenver? What’s the sentiment and overall vibe at the conference, and what are people talking about behind the scenes?

Claudia:

(…) people have been talking a lot about crypto and AI stuff and decentralized compute because that’s really, really exciting. A lot of things like Filecoin (…) we’ve all built storage and so now it’s time to figure out compute; computes really exciting, (it’s) like 60% of most AWS bills that you’re going to see from startups.

So, being able to undercut the prices there and open up more freedom to compute on different platforms is super exciting. That’s something that I’ve seen a lot of the Filecoin stuff. And then at the Ethereum stuff, I’ve seen a lot of re-staking stuff. I went to some ZK (Zero Knowledge) and scaling events that were really interesting as well, and there were a lot of cool toolkits coming out.

Q: Why is data storage and cloud storage so important and why would they be important in the future? And maybe you can talk a little bit about Banyan and what you guys do?

Claudia:

Yeah, for sure. So I mean, a lot of people come at decentralization from the angle of, “oh, it’s so important that we can’t get censored.” And that’s important. However, it’s not important to 90% of the market because most startups are not worried they’re going to get censored. Most large enterprises are not worried that they’re going to get censored. What they are worried about coming from AWS is that AWS is just going to charge them in the same amount of money. Their business will be incredibly dependent on that, (and) there’s nothing they can do and they’re just kind of stuck and they’re (spending) a huge amount of their runway is going into the pocket of AWS.

So I think decentralization is really interesting. Less for the censorship angle, more for the idea of competition. So yeah, if you have 10 different service providers, all of which you can trust because of some combination of cryptographic incentives or notary systems or auditing systems, and they are competing for your business instead of you using AWS (…).

(…) And yeah, if you have that competition, you’re going to have hopefully way lower prices. And we’ve already seen in the open source world that open source software development where you can have one piece of software that is kind of the commons. It’s maintained by a lot of different people who are all contributing to the same piece of software, which can save costs because you’re not duplicating work as much (…).

So, with an open thing where we’re collaborating instead of competing on the development of this new cloud, we can probably drive costs down. We can probably make people fight for a more sensible margin than what AWS is charging people right now. So I think that decentralization is going to be really, really good for cutting cloud costs if we actually execute on this vision and generally just for accessibility of compute resources and making it so that you’re not having as much cloud block and dealing with that. (…) What Banyan does is we take what Filecoin has already built and we make it ready for an enterprise user to use. And that can be a big company, that can be a startup, that can be a small and medium enterprise (…).

(…) we’re very focused on that. When people ask me what I do in Web3, I say, I onboard data on  Filecoin. And they’re like, is that a startup? Why is that an entire company? And I think they just, there’s an immense amount of complexity in actually bringing a decentralized startup to the enterprise, but we’re almost in GA, we’re about to launch and finally reaching the exciting part of this journey.

Mobile World Congress: Insights From STORM’s Sheraz Ahmed

Sheraz Ahmed, Managing Partner at STORM, attended the Mobile World Congress and gave us a look into the massive event. While not directly speaking with Richoux, they coincided on several points: the importance of data user ownership, and decentralize data storage solutions as a key sector for the industry. Speaking about the MWC, Sheraz told us:

Q: What do you think about the Mobile World Congress? What were the main topics of the conversation, and how do they intertwine with blockchain and cryptocurrencies? Do you think this technology and assets are important to the conversation?

Sheraz:

(…) I think a core point is that it’s not only about mobile phones, it’s become about mobile technology and interconnectivity play at large. So everything from Wi-Fi 5G, satellite connection and the likes. And I think when you look at that from a broader play of data interconnectivity, because all of these companies, their main business model is the data angle. It was very interesting to discuss, see and even challenge some of those things. Honestly, when I was looking at some of the companies, seeing what they were doing and the likes, and maybe this is my perspective, but I felt like there was a lot of underlying uncertainty, so I’ve been to a few of these conferences before that have like 60,000, 80,000 people, et cetera.

I’ve never seen so much interest in the consultancy, strategic consultancy side of an industry in terms of if you look at who were some of the main pavilions, I mean you had Huawei, that was huge. Some of these huge phone makers, et cetera, et cetera, they are the mobiles of Mobile World Congress. But then if you looked at how busy they were from a retail perspective, yes people would check out the new folks, check new innovation, great. But then if you really looked behind the scenes and saw the equally big consultancy firm pavilions, Deloitte, PWC, et cetera, et cetera, they were as big. So they had invested as much money, and I saw at least twice as big in terms of, or in terms of volume of people that were going there.

And what that meant or what that triggered me to believe is the fact that people actually really don’t know where we’re going or don’t know where we’re headed. There was a huge reliance on consultants to tell big companies what to do. What is their strategy, what should they innovate in now, how should they innovate? And then speaking with some of the consultants themselves, they’re always very macro, very strategic, etc. But it was interesting to see that they themselves are moving away from just consultancy. That is like advisory report. Here you go. This is your strategy. Okay, well if we have the experts in-house, why don’t we build the technology or technology that then we can use to service/support some of these larger organizations on an ongoing basis basis. And I thought that that was quite interesting because they’re essentially innovating in their business model as the innovation landscape moves forward.

But I definitely believe that there is this large wave of, what’s the right way to put it, a form of uncontrolled technological innovation or I feel like everyone’s a bit out of their depths. Things are moving so fast that the larger organizations are building things that they believe are going to be important to the consumers over the next years to come. And they’re building layer on top of layer of innovation that is driven by the money that they’re making and some things that the consultants are telling them and the likes. But it seems like, and again, maybe this is from my perspective, but it does seem like it’s kind of getting out of their hands in some of the innovation that’s going forward (…). But there is a lot of, “oh, what the hell? Technology has definitely made a leap into its next era, it’s next phase, it’s next generation.”

And if you pull that back to the Web3 kind of angle and you look at the metaverse as an aggregation of those kind of four wave technologies, I definitely believe that that is becoming real today with how interconnected we can be through some of those mobile technologies through some of the augmented reality, virtual reality and technologies. Let’s say applications that are coming out or hardware, software that is coming out. And it was quite crazy in terms of, it didn’t necessarily feel like, there was this one kind of common one. Common direction, yes, maybe in a way. But it really felt like there was a lot happening. A lot of people are trying to shoot not in the dark, but shoot in a lot of different places to see okay, where are we headed? And it was kind of a moment as well where you can look at in each moment of uncertainty, chaos, there’s a lot of opportunity. It felt like we were at that pivotal moment and the energy of opportunism was in the air.

Q: Microsoft, JP Morgan, Accenture, and many other big names in one place talking about the emergences of new technologies, such as AI, blockchain, etc., and it seems like every year it is easier to see the likes of Google joining hands with a crypto project, but what are they contributing with? Where can we see these collaborations actually coming to life?

Sheraz:

Yeah, I think today most of the blockchain world is based on centralized cloud storage, cloud computing. And there were quite some applications at the Mobile World Congress that were looking at decentralized forms of cloud storage. Now if you look at the Amazon’s AWS or Google, these kind of companies like Google Cloud is heavily pushing for more blockchain based businesses to run their nodes on their clouds and the likes, right? So I think that was a big push there.

That is a push there definitely that’s foreseeable. I’ve seen a lot of them start pushing more kind of innovation programs that are not only blockchain led, but that some of the ideas that they’re trying to bring in, they want to have some form of distributed technology as an underlying for maybe some properties that blockchain can provide.

So I think that was a big one. It wasn’t really spoken at the Mobile World Congress, but I think the whole zero knowledge kind of privacy side is going to be super important play when it comes to data and especially when it comes to interconnectivity of different devices together and being able to, you don’t want your data to just be flown through different channels and systems left, right and center. You’re going to want to have some form of encrypted, but also privacy filtered innovation or applications that allow you to ensure that what you’re putting into a certain database isn’t going in and out and everywhere. So I think that’s an important one that is coming as well. And I think that’s something that some of the larger organizations are working towards.

Can Ethereum Touch $4,000? Crypto Analyst Says ETH Rally Far From Over

Like Bitcoin, Ethereum has also picked up steam, with the second-largest crypto token crossing the $3,000 resistance level for the first time since 2021. Interestingly, this crypto analyst believes the rally is far from over, as he highlighted a key price level that ETH could hit soon enough.

Ethereum Could Rise To As High As $4,000

Crypto analyst Altcoin Sherpa suggested in an X (formerly Twitter) post that Ethereum could rise to as high as $4,000. His prediction looks feasible when one considers crypto analyst Bitcoin Ape’s recent analysis of Ethereum from a technical analysis perspective.

In his X post, Bitcoin Ape noted that the ADX (average directional index) indicator is currently “very high,” signalling that ETH’s bullish trend is strong. Indeed, this bullish momentum might be very strong as the crypto token has since crossed the $3,130 price level, which Bitcoin Ape highlighted in his post as ETH’s new resistance level

Interestingly, the analyst noted that Ethereum had already faced four resistance levels in February alone and has so far broken all of them, having also crossed the $3,130 mark. Although Bitcoin Ape failed to give his short-term prediction for ETH, he expects the crypto token to hit its all-time high (ATH) of $4,891 when the bull run returns in full force.

Meanwhile, Altcoin Sherpa isn’t the only one who believes that ETH could rise to $4,000 soon enough. Standard Chartered Bank had also predicted that the crypto token would hit this price level by the time the Spot Ethereum ETF is approved in May.

Crypto analyst Rager also recently gave a bullish prediction for ETH’s price, although he put his short-term target at $3,500. However, he added that this price level is only the beginning, stating that it isn’t the “peak high by any means.”

Ethereum’s Rally Not Hinged On Bitcoin’s Success

There is reason to believe Ethereum’s current bullish momentum isn’t due to Bitcoin’s price surge, as the Ethereum ecosystem also has narratives that may be driving ETH’s rally. For one, the Ethereum network’s ‘Dencun’ upgrade is set to take place on March 13. This much-anticipated event is significant as it would usher in advancements in the scalability, security, and usability of the Ethereum network.

Meanwhile, talks about a Spot Ethereum ETF likely being approved in May have created a lot of excitement for investors who have chosen to double down on their investments in the second-largest crypto token in anticipation of this happening.

The increased interest in ETH is expected to spark significant rallies in its price ahead of the May deadline, when the SEC will have to approve or deny VanEck’s Spot Ethereum ETF application.

Ethereum Outperforms Bitcoin As Institutional Investors Clamor For ETH Exposure

Reports have revealed that institutional investors are shifting their focus to Ethereum, displaying a preference compared to the largest cryptocurrency, Bitcoin. Despite Bitcoin’s recent rally to over $55,000, Ethereum’s unique features and potential developmental capabilities continue to capture institutional players’ interest.

Institutions Favor Ethereum Over Bitcoin

On February 24, cryptocurrency exchange, Bybit, published a research report on its users’ asset allocation. The research examined investors’ hodling and trading behaviours, covering the period from July 2023 to January 2024. Bybit’s report also provided valuable insights into investors’ asset allocation across cryptocurrencies such as altcoins, stablecoins and meme coins, shedding light on the specific coins users are currently bullish or bearish on.

According to the research report, Ethereum has unexpectedly emerged as the primary cryptocurrency choice for institutional investors. The report revealed that “institutions are betting big on Ethereum,” allocating more of their funds to ETH compared to BTC.

Bybit has disclosed that the recent rise in interest in Ethereum began in September 2023, when ETH was still trading around $2,000. Subsequently, Ethereum’s market sentiment became more bullish, experiencing a surge in investor interest to about 40% by January 2024. The crypto exchange has confirmed that, as of January 31, ETH has become the single largest cryptocurrency held by institutions.

Bybit’s report also revealed that institutional investors’ interest in Bitcoin began to wane following the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approval of Spot Bitcoin ETFs on January 10, 2024. At the time, Bitcoin had experienced massive selling pressures, resulting in investors trimming their BTC holdings to favour other cryptocurrencies.

The excessive allocation of Ethereum is reportedly attributed to investors anticipating a favourable outcome from Ethereum’s upcoming Decun Upgrade, slated to launch in March 2024.

Notably, Bybit has disclosed that it is still being determined if the recent shift to Ethereum is a short-term manoeuvre or a more prolonged move. However, the approaching Bitcoin halving in April potentially adds a layer of bearish risks, as projections indicate Bitcoin’s significant rise in value to new all-time highs during the halving phase.

Ethereum price chart from Tradingview.com (Bitcoin)

Retail Investors Think Otherwise

Bybit’s research report also examines the asset allocation trend for retail investors on the cryptocurrency exchange. The report revealed that retail investors are significantly more bullish on Bitcoin than Ethereum, allocating more funds into BTC than ETH despite Ethereum’s recent surge in value.

Over the past week, Ethereum has experienced a substantial hike in its price, jumping over 7% and outpacing Bitcoin, suggesting a potential for a more extensive upward trajectory. At the time of writing, Ethereum is trading at $3,227, reflecting a 4.05% increase in the last 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap.

While Ethereum’s massive rally has successfully elevated the sentiment among institutional investors, retail investors remain less swayed, opting to hold onto or incorporate additional Bitcoin into their diversified portfolio of digital assets.

Crypto Analyst Sounds Warning Alarm: Last Chance To Buy Bitcoin And Ethereum Before Bull Run

Crypto analyst Rager recently provided valuable insights to Bitcoin and Ethereum investors ahead of the imminent bull run. As part of his statements, he revealed the best time to go all in on the two largest crypto tokens by market cap, Bitcoin and Ethereum.

“Last Great Opportunity For This Cycle”

Rager opined in an X (formerly Twitter) post that the “last great opportunity for this cycle” will come around the Bitcoin Halving. In line with this, he also stated that he was still holding spot in positions and waiting for the “BTC and ETH pullback”, which he explicitly predicts will happen between now and May.

Going by Rager’s opinion, this “nice dip” presents the perfect time for crypto investors to position themselves ahead of this cycle’s bull run. His statement also suggests that Bitcoin and Ethereum (and possibly other crypto tokens) will run massively after that pullback occurs. Interestingly, analysts have continued to identify this event as what will kickstart the next bull run.

Bitcoin price chart from Tradingview.com

Bitcoin Run To $60,000 Might Be Close

In a subsequent X post, Rager gave an idea of what price level Bitcoin could drop to when the crash occurred as he hinted that he wouldn’t invest until Bitcoin dropped to $48,000. He also provided an analysis of Bitcoin’s current price action, noting that it has been “composed of a few days of strong price action followed by a lot of chop and pullbacks.”

He added that Bitcoin and the broader crypto market “has a lot of upside opportunity.” However, he warned that there could likely be a short-term pullback, which he predicts could be the last great opportunity to invest. Rager also claimed that Bitcoin would break the $60,000 resistance for the first time since 2021 once this pullback is done.

ETH To $3,500 Is The Next Target

In another X post, Rager mentioned that the $3,500 price level is the target for the current bullish momentum in the market. He also believes this will likely happen “sooner rather than later” with the help of the Ethereum Spot ETF rumours. Industry experts have expressed confidence that these funds will be approved.

$3,500 is just Rager’s first target for Ethereum in this cycle’s bull run, noting that it isn’t the “peak high by any means.” Meanwhile, the analyst stated that the peak of this bull run is still far off. Using the crypto fundraising data as an indicator to determine when the market top is almost in, he noted that fundraising was still at lower levels compared to peak bull market activity.

Ethereum Price Tops $3,100: Mega Wedge Breakout Imminent

After a prolonged period of weakness for a year and a half against the Bitcoin price, the Ethereum price is currently showing strength again and could be set for an explosive move, according to several renowned analysts.

Ethereum/BTC Chart Is A ‘Stunner’

In an analysis of the ETH/BTC trading pair, renowned financial expert Raoul Pal has brought to light a compelling dual-chart pattern. The formation of both a “mega wedge” and an inner descending channel is setting the stage for what might be a significant breakout for Ethereum when priced in Bitcoin. Pal stated:

The ETH/BTC chart is an absolute stunner…and ready for the next big move, the break of the mega wedge…let’s see how it pans out….

ETH/BTC price analysis by @RaoulGMI on X

The “mega wedge” pattern, discernible on the weekly ETH/BTC chart, showcases a contraction of price movement between two converging trend lines over an extended time frame. The upper trend line, acting as a dynamic resistance, has repeatedly pushed back ascending price attempts. Conversely, the lower trend line has provided a sturdy support base.

Within the boundaries of this one and a half year wedge, a more immediate descending channel has taken shape. This channel, characterized by a downward trajectory with price action making lower highs and lower lows, indicates a bearish sentiment within the overarching consolidation phase of the mega wedge.

However, Ethereum’s current positioning, slightly above the upper boundary of this descending channel, implies that a breakout could be on the cards (if confirmed). As of press time, Ethereum was trading at an equivalent value of over $3,059, which translates to roughly 0.06037 BTC.

The intersection of these two patterns, particularly if the breakout from the descending channel is confirmed, could be a harbinger of increased volatility and a potential trend reversal for ETH against BTC. A potential retest of the channel could catalyze a rally towards the mega wedge’s upper trend line, challenging the longer-term resistance. A successful breakout from the mega wedge could then ensue, signaling a massive bullish phase for Ethereum against Bitcoin.

More Bullish Voices On ETH

Remarkably, Raoul Pal is not the only seasoned analyst observing this major trend. Christopher Inks, founder of Texas West Capital stated via X:

The monthly ETH/ BTC chart looks crazy bullish off the lows. Bullish SFP, volume expansion at the lows, rally into descending resistance. An impulsive break out above that descending resistance will have me looking for price to target the top of the range and, likely, new ATHs.

Ethereum/Bitcoin price analysis

Renowned analyst Will Clemente has also weighed in on the unfolding situation with his expert commentary, echoing the significance of the patterns observed by Raoul Pal. Clemente accentuates the breaking of a multi-year downtrend on the weekly chart, a technical milestone that carries substantial weight for market sentiment.

Clemente’s analysis further deepens the plot by highlighting several key factors currently at play in the Ethereum ecosystem. First, Ethereum’s price action has revisited and swept the lows of May 2022, a move often associated with shaking out weak hands before a potential trend reversal.

Second, the recent talk of “Ethereum obituaries” on social media timelines suggests a sentiment extreme, often seen at major turning points. Moreover, there is currently a new narrative for ETH shaping, the emergence of “restaking”.

Probably the strongest catalyst for the ETH price in the coming months could be the potential approval of an spot Ethereum ETF in the United States. Similar to the Bitcoin ETF euphoria, Clemente speculates that the approval has not yet been priced in.

Lastly, Uniswap’s governance proposal to switch on fees could redirect significant value to token holders, potentially adding further bullish momentum to ETH’s valuation. Clemente caps his commentary with a forecast that resonates with the sentiments of many observers: “ETH & ETH shitcoin rotation is probably upon us.”

At press time, ETH traded at $3,059.

Ethereum Price Tops $3,000, But ‘Is Completely Detached From Reality’: Expert

The Ethereum (ETH) price has crossed the $3,000 threshold for the first time since April 2022 yesterday. However, amidst the celebratory fireworks in the crypto community, Fred Krueger, a renowned Bitcoin ETF expert, has voiced a starkly contrasting opinion. Krueger, a Wall Street veteran and prop trader, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his skepticism about the current valuation of ETH, stating, “ETH is completely detached from reality.”

Why Ethereum Is “Completely Detached From Reality”

Krueger’s comments come at a time when the crypto market is witnessing a resurgence in investor interest, with Ethereum at the forefront due to its recent price rally. Despite this, Krueger points out a concerning trend in the usage of the Ethereum blockchain.

“ETH is at $3,000. Surely this must mean that a ton of people are using ETH, right? Nope. Eth, the chain has dropped from 120K active daily users in 2021, to just 66K over the last year. The top app, Uniswap V3 is only getting 16K DAUs. I remember, back in 2020 this number was 60K or more,” he noted, emphasizing a decline in the platform’s direct utility and engagement.

The Bitcoin ETF expert further criticized the valuation of Ethereum, drawing parallels to meme coins like Shiba Inu due to its inflated market cap, which stands at $361 billion despite the fall in active users. “It really has become a type of meme coin, similar to Shiba Inu,” Krueger remarked, pointing to the stark contrast between Ethereum’s high market cap and its diminishing direct use.

Krueger argues that Ethereum is not only overvalued but also faces stiff competition from other blockchains that outperform it in terms of transaction costs and speed. “It’s not particularly cheap ($1.50 per transaction), or fast. If you are just interested in reward points for games, or casino-style DeFi apps — Solana, Avalanche, Near etc.. all crush it.”

Krueger also expressed skepticism about the future regulatory landscape for Ethereum, particularly concerning the potential for an ETH exchange-traded fund (ETF). “Finally, I don’t think Gensler is going to allow an ETH ETF… I just don’t think Gary wants to make his second ETF a massive pre-mine. Sets a very bad precedent,” he stated, reflecting on the challenges Ethereum faces in gaining mainstream financial acceptance.

The Crypto Community Reacts

In response to Krueger’s critical take, the crypto community on X provided mixed reactions. One user challenged Krueger’s analysis by pointing to Ethereum’s rollup-centric roadmap and the misleading nature of using mainnet daily active users (DAU) as a metric for the platform’s health. Krueger, however, remained unconvinced, stating, “Even L2s like Arbitrum have been in decline for the last 12 months. This is not the case that all is well in ETH-land.”

Another user attempted to highlight the cyclical nature of DeFi and the broader crypto market, suggesting that the current downturn is a temporary phase of risk aversion. Yet, Krueger dismissed these arguments, reiterating his lack of interest in speculative DeFi activities and emphasizing his belief in Bitcoin as the true revolutionary cryptocurrency. “I am not interested in degen ape games. Have fun,” he stated.

Krueger’s critique extends beyond Ethereum to the broader landscape of cryptocurrencies, questioning the long-term viability and value proposition of altcoins, including Layer 1 solutions other than Bitcoin. He argues that these platforms are unlikely to become significant value generators in the long term, likening their control mechanisms to fiat currencies but with central figures like Vitalik Buterin in place of traditional central bankers.

Krueger’s overall stance on Ethereum and the broader crypto market is clear. “My position on ETH. At the end of the day, Bitcoin is the revolution… Every other cryptocurrency is fighting for some other much smaller use case,” he explained, underscoring his belief in Bitcoin’s unique value proposition as a decentralized, finite currency system.

At press time, the ETH price surpassed the 0.5 Fibonacci retracement level (at $2,922), trading at $2,935. A weekly close above this threshold could confirm another leg up for the ETH price.

Ethereum (ETH) Price Reaches $3,000 After Two Years, More Excitement To Come?

On Tuesday, Ether (ETH), the second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, touched its highest level since April of 2022. Ethereum’s native cryptocurrency momentarily surpassed the $3,000 before quickly facing a price pullback.

Ether Briefly Touches The Sky

The whole crypto market has been buzzing with a bullish sentiment in recent weeks after the massive inflows coming into the recently launched Spot Bitcoin ETFs (exchange-traded funds).

Since the approval of Bitcoin ETFs by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), eyes have moved to the possibility of other spot crypto-based ETFs in other cryptocurrencies like ETH and XRP.

The speculation surrounding the approval of Ether ETFs in May has been one of several actors fueling the recent price surge. The expectation for the approval and launch of the Bitcoin-based investment products filled the crypto market with positive sentiment on the BTC’s price uptrend.

As previously reported, Options traders expect the cryptocurrency’s price to reach $4,000 in the upcoming months. This predicted price range would come closer to the token’s all-time high (ATH) of $4,800, seen during the previous market bull run in November 2021.

However, the first test in a journey to $4,000 presents as the $3,000 resistance level. Analysts have evaluated Ether’s movements as its momentum reignited and considered the $3,000 a possible milestone after the digital asset showed a strong resistance in the $2,800 support zone.

Today, the second-largest cryptocurrency surpassed this key resistance zone momentarily, an achievement not seen since the end of April 2022. However, Ethereum’s native token could not maintain momentum for long and faced a price pullback to the $2,900 level.

Whales Are pulling In Both Directions

Recent developments in Ether’s price have had many investors express a positive outlook for the second-largest cryptocurrency. Some analysts even made a bullish prediction on the Altcoin market in general.

Whales have also reacted to ETH’s recent uptrend. According to an X post by Spot on Chain, a whale allegedly bought 54,721 ETH at $2,845 24 hours before the post. These transactions accounted for approximately $155.7 million and signaled a positive sentiment toward the asset by the large players in the market.

However, a dormant whale who participated in Ethereum’s ICO woke up after 8 years, according to the blockchain analyst platform Lookonchain.

The whale seemingly deposited about half of its ETH holdings into Kraken after ETH’s price surpassed $3,000. The transaction saw the transfer of 1,732 ETH worth approximately $5.15 million to the crypto exchange.

This transaction has raised a slight concern over the possibility of a massive sell-off that could affect ETH’s uptrend. Crypto investors now stay alert of large holders trying to offload their assets to profit from the market upsurge.

ETH Price Performance

At the time of writing, ETH is trading at $2,923.50, representing a 1.6% decrease in the last hour. Despite this, the price has increased 11.2% in the last week.

More notably, Ether’s daily trading volume has shown a 47.10% increase, at $20.6 billion in the last 24 hours, suggesting a rise in market activity. Similarly, ETH comfortably maintains its spot as the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, with a 0.82% increase in the last day, totaling $351.29 billion.

Ethereum Receives Nod Of Approval From Berstein: ETH Price Will Reach $10,000

Global asset management firm, Bernstein has expressed confidence, foreseeing a fairly strong chance of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approving an Ethereum Spot ETF.

SEC Ethereum Spot ETF Approval Imminent

In a February 19 research report, Bernstein analysts Gautam Chhugani and Mahika Sapra disclosed that Ethereum, the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency, may be the only digital asset after Bitcoin, to win an ETF approval from the US SEC.

Following the approval of Spot Bitcoin ETF, many crypto enthusiasts anticipated Ethereum as the next in line for an ETF. However, given the SEC’s current stance on cryptocurrencies and its previous reluctant acceptance of Spot Bitcoin ETFs, the prospects of an Ethereum ETF have become uncertain

In the research report, Bernstein analysts predicted the approval timeline for an Ethereum Spot ETF. They emphasized that the presence of notable traditional financial firms, including Grayscale and Franklin Templeton, competing for a Spot Ethereum ETF, strengthens the outlook for its approval.

“We think there is a roughly 50% chance of spot Ethereum ETF approval by May, with an almost certain chance of approval within the next 12 months,” the Bernstein report read.

Ethereum’s Roadmap To $10,000

With the potential approval of Ethereum Spot ETFs, Ethereum may witness a significant price increase to levels as high as $10,000.  Prior to the SEC’s approval of Spot Bitcoin ETFs on January 10, the anticipation surrounding the ETF had sparked a massive price rally for the cryptocurrency. Following the approval and ETF launch, Bitcoin surged to over $45,000 before witnessing a subsequent price correction that pushed it back below $40,000.

Despite the short correction, Bitcoin has been gaining back its momentum, and at the time of writing, the cryptocurrency is trading at $51,998, according to CoinMarketCap. This substantial price increase is largely attributed to the success of its ETF, providing investors with greater accessibility to Bitcoin, and contributing to the cryptocurrency’s increased adoption.

A similar narrative could unfold for Ethereum following the approval of its ETF. With rising interest from institutional investors and the ETF driving global adoption, the cryptocurrency could potentially attain new all-time highs above $10,000.

In the research report, Bernstein analysts also confirmed Ethereum’s strong positioning for mainstream institutional adoption. The analysts emphasized the need for the cryptocurrency market to shift its attention to Ethereum, as the cryptocurrency is poised to witness gains following the approval and launch of its ETF.

Strategic Exploit: Crypto Traders Harvested $3 Billion From ‘Kimchi Premium’?

South Korea’s local media, Newsis, recently reported the case of certain crypto traders who had sent about $3 billion overseas in a bid to profit from the ‘Kimichi Premium.’ Interestingly, the court found 14 out of 16 of these traders not guilty despite their alleged actions.

How This Group Of Crypto Traders Operated

These crypto traders are said to have sent these sums of money through local banks under the guise of these transactions being foreign exchange remittances. However, this was allegedly not the case, as they would then use the funds to purchase virtual currencies abroad and send those crypto assets back to domestic exchanges, where they eventually offload them.

This was done to allegedly profit from the ‘Kimichi Premium.’ This phenomenon occurs when crypto assets are more expensive in South Korea than overseas due to the country’s particular regulations.

This has created an arbitrage opportunity that crypto traders have sought to exploit. Meanwhile, the Korean government has tried to prevent traders from doing so.

That is why the prosecution charged 16 people, including someone referred to as Mr. A in the news report, with violating the Specific Financial Information Act. Mr. A and others were accused of illegally transferring foreign currency worth 4.3 trillion won ($3 billion) overseas between April 2021 and August 2022 to exploit the Kimichi premium allegedly.

The prosecution believes these crypto traders made a market profit of as much as 210 billion won ($158 million). In their defense, the defendants argued against any wrongdoing since they weren’t precisely the ones facilitating the foreign exchange business but the bank.

The traders argued they were platform users, not virtual asset business operators. The bank involved also tried to absolve itself from the case as it claimed it carried out the transaction based on the “false evidence” the defendants submitted.

Court Finds The Defendants Not Guilty

The court agreed with most defendants’ arguments, acquitting 14 (including Mr. A) out of the 16 persons charged. A local Judge who ruled over the case opined that their actions didn’t violate the objective of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act and, therefore, could not be punished under that law.

The Judge added that there was “nothing to suggest that the defendants operated as virtual asset business operators.” If the reverse was the case, they could have been punished for not registering their business or making certain disclosures as required by the law.

Interestingly, Judge Park further distinguished the current case from a Supreme Court precedent as he noted that the highest court did not “explicitly judge the issues in this case.” The prosecution already submitted an appeal, dissatisfied with the court’s ruling.

ERC-404 Euphoria Push Ethereum Gas Fees To 8 Month High

The new ERC-404 tokens have swiftly taken the spotlight, dominating the cryptocurrency market and consistently attracting interest from investors and traders. This surge in euphoria has led to a substantial increase in Ethereum gas fees, pushing costs to their highest levels in the past eight months.

Ethereum Gas Fees Skyrocket

Ethereum gas fees have surged to record highs, reaching unseen levels since March 2023, when the average gas price peaked at 101.26 Gwei. The sudden spike in Ethereum gas prices has been attributed to the recent hype surrounding ERC-404 tokens, an experimental token standard that enables native fractionalization of Non-fungible Tokens (NFTs).

Presently, reports from Etherscan, an Ethereum block explorer and analytics platform, reveal that on Friday, February 9, 2024, Ethereum gas fees reached an average gas price of 71.4 Gwei, with a maximum and minimum gas price of 59,956 Gwei and 34.4 Gwei respectively.

This price is the highest Ethereum gas fees have reached since its explosive peak in May 2023, when the average gas price surged to 155.8 Gwei.

Ethereum ERC-404 ETH ETHUSDT

The popularity of the ERC-404 can be attributed to the Pandora team heralding the unofficial token and taking advantage of its high liquidity. Additionally, various cryptocurrency traders have shown immense interest in the new token, aiming to capitalize on its potential and maximize its liquidity.

One trader recently made $59,000 from the popular ERC-404 token. He revealed that his “secret to making money” was buying and selling the ERC 404 token, MINER, using the high gas fees as an advantage.

The co-founder of Gaslite GG, identified as ‘Pop Punk’ on X (formerly Twitter), has also predicted that introducing ERC-404 tokens will lead to a continuous daily rise in the average Ethereum gas price.

About The ERC-404 Token Standard

Earlier Thursday, the market capitalization of ERC-404 tokens soared to $296 million, announcing their arrival in the crypto market. The token standard was launched on February 5 and has gained immense traction in crypto.

Although ERC-404 tokens remain unofficial due to the absence of a complete audit and endorsement by Ethereum developers, they have witnessed a significant surge in the days following their launch. One of the prominent ERC-404 tokens, Pandora, recently saw a rise of over 400%.

The experimental tokens have gained widespread popularity due to their unique approach of bridging the gap between fungible and non-fungible tokens for better liquidity and fractionalization.

Ethereum Staking Reaches Historic Milestone As ETH Price Barrels Past $2,400

Ethereum staking has been ramping up despite the poor performance of the ETH price over the past year. Liquid staking protocols such as Lido Finance have continued to see the amount of ETH being staked rise, and as a result of this continued interest in staking ETH, the total amount of supply that has been locked so far has reached a new all-time high.

25% Of All ETH Are Now Staked

In an interesting turn of events, the total percentage of ETH supply that is being staked has crossed the 25% mark. This was made public by Lido Finance, which shared a screenshot of a Dune Analytics dashboard showing that it has touched the 25% mark.

Looking at the Dune Analytics dashboard, it shows that this figure continues to climb following this, with 25.08% of the total ETH supply now staked. This figure is facilitated by a total of 924,023 Ethereum validators that are currently running on the network.

Net flows have also gone against expectations and have been positive since the Shanghai upgrade. This upgrade allowed stakers to be able to finally withdraw their staked ETH. But rather than withdrawals happening en masse, more ETH has flowed into staking contracts.

Dune’s data shows that over 10 million ETH have flowed into staking contracts since the Shanghai upgrade. Currently, there are over 30.14 million ETH in total staked so far, and this figure seems to be rising fast.

Lido Dominates Ethereum Staking

Of the total 30.14 million ETH figure that has been staked so far, a large percentage are currently being staked through the Lido platform, as the Dune Analytics platform accounts for 31.52% of all staked ETH. This solidifies Lido’s position as the largest Ethereum staking platform, with over 297,000 validators on the protocol.

Coinbase follows behind Lido, accounting for 14.4% of the total ETH staked with more than 136,000 validators. This means that together, Coinbase and Lido Finance currently control 45% of the staked ETH market, giving them a head start over others.

Binance, another crypto exchange, is in third place, with 4.3% of all staked ETH and 41,000 validates. Kiln, Figment, and Rocket Pool control the 4th, 5th, and 6th positions, respectively, controlling between 2.8% and 3.3% of the total staked ETH.

Looking at the rewards so far, Ethereum stakers have made quite a lot since the initiative began. The total ETH earned so far by Lido stakers has crossed 467,000 ETH, with 259,000 ETH earned on Coinbase, and 139,000 ETH earned by Binance stakers.

The ETH price has also turned bullish during this time, beating the resistance at $2,400. It is up 2.22% in the last day, with 7% gains in the last week, according to data from CoinMarketCap.

Ethereum Dencun Upgrade Launch Boosts ETH Price, Eyes 90% Fee Reduction

Ethereum (ETH) has made significant strides in its 2024 roadmap with the successful launch of the Dencun upgrade on the final Holesky testnet.

This is seen as a crucial step towards deploying the upgrade on the mainnet, signaling Ethereum’s progress in improving transaction efficiency, and scalability and reducing transaction fees by up to 90%. As a result, ETH has surged 2.9% in the last 24 hours, breaking its previous downtrend.

Ethereum Dencun Upgrade

The Dencun upgrade was first activated on the Sepolia testnet in January 2024, following its deployment on the Goerli testnet. This upgrade aligns with Ethereum’s broader strategy to enhance scalability and reduce transaction costs for its users.

Introducing the concept of “proto-danksharding,” Dencun aims to decrease transaction costs for layer-2 blockchains and address scalability challenges, paving the way for the eventual implementation of “danksharding” for further benefits.

Once fully implemented, Dencun is expected to significantly increase Ethereum’s transaction processing capacity, potentially enabling the network to handle over 100,000 transactions per second. According to the network’s development team, this scalability enhancement is crucial for supporting the growing ecosystem of decentralized applications (dApps) and users on Ethereum.

Furthermore, Dencun will have notable technical improvements, such as the introduction of ‘blobs,’ which reduce the cost of rollups on the Ethereum mainnet by compressing transaction data off-chain.

By caching data needed for short-term transaction verification, blobs aim to minimize storage and processing requirements, further enhancing the network’s transactional capabilities.

Anticipation For ETH’s Market Impact

The successful implementation of the Dencun upgrade holds the potential for significant implications on ETH’s market value, driven by a combination of factors.

Firstly, the upgrade’s enhanced network capabilities, including boosted transaction processing capacity and reduced costs, are expected to attract more developers and users to the Ethereum ecosystem.

With improved scalability and lower transaction fees, Ethereum could become a more attractive platform for building dApps and conducting transactions. This increased utility and demand for Ethereum could have a positive impact on its market value as more participants seek to acquire ETH tokens.

The perceived reliability and forward momentum resulting from the successful implementation of Dencun may attract more investors to consider Ethereum as an investment opportunity. The increased interest and demand for ETH tokens driven by this positive sentiment can contribute to potential price appreciation.

Lastly, the anticipation of Dencun’s benefits and the reactions to its successful implementation may lead to short-term price volatility, with investors adjusting their positions based on their expectations of how the upgrade will impact Ethereum’s functionality and market position.

All of these developments could have a significant impact on ETH’s price trajectory and position the token in a long bullish trend, if this momentum continues to be capitalized on, the next barrier at $2,450 could be easily surpassed, potentially sending ETH to new highs.

While the long-term implications remain to be seen, this is a positive development for ETH bulls as the network has lacked significant catalysts and has been involved in a significant price correction for the past 3 weeks.

With activations on the Sepolia and Goerli testnets already completed, the final testnet deployment, Holesky, was initially scheduled for February 7, 2024. However, it has now been rescheduled for March 2024.

Ethereum Exodus: The Inside Scoop On The Massive $500 Million Weekly Flight

Ethereum (ETH), the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, has seen a significant exodus from centralized exchanges in recent weeks, with data suggesting a growing preference for holding the asset outside of trading platforms.

At the time of writing, ETH was trading at $2,289, down 0.7% in the last 24 hours, but managed to gain 1.6% in the last week, data from Coingecko shows.

Ethereum Outflow Hits $1.2 Billion

According to blockchain analytics firm IntoTheBlock, a staggering $500 million worth of ETH exited exchanges last week, contributing to a total outflow of $1.2 billion for the entire month of January. This represents a major shift compared to previous months, raising questions about the motivations behind this trend.

CryptoQuant data paints an even starker picture, showcasing a dominant pattern of outflows since the beginning of January. The chart reveals a persistent decline in exchange holdings, with the last inflow recorded on January 30th. At the time of writing, the outflow continues unabated, with over 3,000 ETH leaving exchanges every hour.

However, the impact on overall exchange supply is not entirely uniform. While the total amount of ETH held on exchanges initially increased in January, reaching around 10.7 million by mid-month, it subsequently dipped to 10.3 million by January 28th. Currently, the supply has resumed an upward trend, sitting at around 10.6 million.

Binance ETH Exodus: Investors’ Strategic Moves

Interestingly, the historical balance of ETH on Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, tells a different story. Despite the overall uptick in exchange holdings, Binance has witnessed a consistent decline in its ETH balance throughout January. From a peak of over 3.9 million ETH on January 23rd, the balance has shrunk to around 3.7 million, indicating that users are actively withdrawing their Ethereum from the platform.

While the exact reasons behind this trend remain unclear, several possible interpretations emerge:

  • Increased Investor Confidence: Moving ETH off exchanges could signal a growing sentiment among investors to hold the asset for the long term, potentially driven by confidence in its future potential. Additionally, some investors might be transferring their ETH to DeFi platforms for staking or yield farming opportunities.
  • Market Uncertainty: The recent outflows could also reflect broader concerns about market volatility or potential regulatory changes, prompting investors to seek safer storage for their holdings.
  • Binance-Specific Dynamics: The decline on Binance might be due to factors specific to the exchange, such as user preferences for alternative platforms or changes in its trading fees or policies.

ERC-20 tokens are standardized building blocks on the Ethereum network. They adhere to a specific set of rules, ensuring seamless interaction and divisibility, making them perfect for trading and diverse applications. Think of them as digital coins, each with its unique identity and purpose, ready to be exchanged, used, and explored.

Whether you’re a seasoned crypto trader or a curious newcomer, navigating the thrilling world of ERC-20 trading can be challenging. This comprehensive guide will equip you with the knowledge and tools to confidently buy, sell, and trade these digital assets on the Ethereum network.

Some of the major and popular ERC-20 Tokens are Tether (USDT), Polygon (MATIC), Chainlink (LINK), Uniswap (UNI), Lido DAO (LIDO), Maker DAO (MKR), amongst many others.

Features of Ethereum Network

Ethereum’s innovative design sets it apart from other networks, paving the way for a decentralized future of finance, applications, and beyond. Distinguished by its unique features and capabilities, it stands as one of the pioneers of Blockchain Technologies with standout features like:

The Power of Smart Contracts

The Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) serves as the core engine that drives the execution of smart contracts on the Ethereum network. These smart contracts are self-executing code that automates various actions and agreements, forming the foundation of dApps and DeFi protocols. EVM compatibility is crucial for deploying and interacting with ERC-20 tokens, the most common token standard on Ethereum.

Unlike static databases, Ethereum boasts the groundbreaking ability to execute self-enforcing agreements through smart contracts. These programmable pieces of code automate a wide range of tasks, enabling trustless interactions and the creation of innovative applications in diverse sectors.

Layer 1 and Layer 2: Addressing Scalability

The Ethereum mainnet functions as a Layer 1 blockchain, the base layer where all transactions are ultimately settled. To address the scalability bottlenecks on this primary layer, Layer 2 solutions have emerged as a promising approach. These solutions aim to offload a significant portion of transaction processing off-chain, resulting in increased throughput, faster confirmation times, and significantly reduced transaction costs.

A Platform For Innovation

Ethereum isn’t just a cryptocurrency platform; it’s a fertile ground for developers to build revolutionary decentralized applications (dApps). From DeFi protocols automating financial transactions to NFTs unlocking new ownership models, the possibilities are endless.

Gas and Gas Fees: Fueling Transactions

Within the Ethereum network, gas refers to the computational power required to execute transactions and smart contracts. Users pay gas fees to compensate miners for processing their transactions. Gas fees are denominated in ETH, Ethereum’s native cryptocurrency.

Fueling Decentralized Finance (DeFi)

As a breeding ground for DeFi protocols, Ethereum empowers users to take control of their finances. Borrow, lend, invest, and trade without dependence on intermediaries, fostering a more open and inclusive financial system.

Ecosystem And Adoption

Unlike centralized projects, Ethereum thrives on a vibrant and passionate community. Developers, miners, and users participate in its governance and evolution, ensuring its development remains transparent and aligned with the community’s needs. This growing ecosystem includes decentralized exchanges (DEXs), gaming applications, and more.

Exploring Layer 2 Scaling Solutions

Layer 2 scaling solutions offer a promising pathway to address the scalability challenges faced by the Ethereum mainnet. They operate as secondary layers built on top of the main blockchain, providing alternative mechanisms for transaction processing and data storage.

Here are some common types of Layer 2 solutions:

  • Sidechains: Independent blockchains that run in parallel with Ethereum, enabling faster and cheaper transactions.
  • Plasma Chains: Blockchains that leverage Ethereum for security and finality, offering scalability benefits through data offloading.
  • Optimistic Rollups: The technology employed by the Ethereum network for token transactions, which bundles multiple transactions off-chain and submits a summary to the mainnet for verification.

Beyond Features: What Truly Sets Ethereum Apart?

Celsius Dump Triggers Ethereum Dive: $35 Million Sell-Off Sends ETH Price Crashing

Celsius Networks, currently undergoing bankruptcy proceedings, has engaged in significant Ethereum transactions that are causing ripples within the digital currency landscape.

In the past 10 hours, on-chain analysts at LookonChain detected noteworthy transfers, including a 13,000 ETH deposit ($30 million) on Coinbase and an additional 2,200 ETH ($5 million) on FalconX. These transactions suggest a proactive stance by Celsius in addressing its ongoing financial challenges.

Celsius Sells $125M ETH, Maintains $1.3B Reserve

According to Arkham Intelligence, Celsius sold more than $125 million worth of Ethereum (ETH) coins between January 8 and January 12. The primary goal of this auction is to pay off creditors.

Dune Analytics also revealed a more widespread pattern of redemptions, with over $1.6 billion of staked Ethereum being redeemed during the same period. Since the Shanghai update last year, the amount of redemptions recorded is the highest.

Despite facing financial constraints imposed by the court, Celsius still holds a substantial Ethereum reserve. This reserve amounts to over 557,000 coins in two staking wallets, with a total valuation of approximately $1.3 billion. The size of this reserve adds a layer of complexity to Celsius’ current financial situation and underscores the evolving narrative within the crypto space.

As part of its obligations to creditors, Celsius has been actively liquidating its Ethereum holdings. These auctions, aimed at paying off outstanding debts, are integral to Celsius’ bankruptcy proceedings.

The market has responded to these Ethereum transactions, resulting in a 4% decline in the price of ETH. The cryptocurrency slipped below the $2,350 mark, raising concerns among analysts, especially as ETH now wavers below its crucial demand zone ranging from $2,380 to $2,461.

Analysts predict that a failure to maintain this level could lead to a potential retreat towards the $2,000 mark.

Wealthy Investors Trigger Ethereum Profit-Taking

Santiment’s historical data reveals that significant transactions by wealthy investors, commonly known as whales, often trigger profit-taking activities among regular ETH holders. This phenomenon intensifies selling pressure and contributes to price declines.

Meanwhile, decreasing funding rates suggest an underlying optimism in the market, hinting at a possible cooldown in previously overheated perpetual markets. This situation leaves room for ETH to rebound once the selling pressure subsides.

As the bankruptcy drama of Celsius unfolds, the scrutiny on its Ethereum transactions and the resulting market dynamics will persist. Investors and observers are closely monitoring the situation, eagerly awaiting further developments and anticipating the broader implications for both Celsius and the crypto ecosystem.
